Thread: Are we helped by defenses from other skills like TKA or Fencing?
Will these defenses work if I'm holding a pistol?
I'm assuming they will since they have the same names as abilities given to me in pistoleer tree.

just wondering cause currently i am a smuggler/pistoleer and i was looking into taking up tka
master gunfighter/master tka/rogue is a great combination.excellent defenses, meditation, excellent ranged and melee ranged combat abilities, and if you have good armor, vk's, and pistols it'll make you even more unstoppable. add strategy into this template, and you'll be nearly unstoppable.

Master Gunfighter vs Master Gunfighter + BH Pistol 4 regarding only DPS is pathetic, the second one can deal twice what the first one can deal.
Makes a HUGE difference.
And btw, I tried it (thanx to holocrons, I'm now also Master TKA) : those mods (ANY of them) are weapon dependant, despite what is stated in the CTRL-S skill mods reported. If there is an enhancement, it is negligible.
I was Master Gunfighter + BH Pistol 2 (99 speed) and my DPS was easily twice better, even a bit more since I can't use my scatter now, and I don't have better defense.
I'm also curious on the question of TKA vs. Fencer. I'm planning on a tri-spec sort of thing (smuggler/pistoleer/other). Either Fencer or TKA for other. What I'm curious of is: 1) would the extra dodge from fencer really help any?.. 2) How would the defense mods of fencer stack up to those of TKA?..
Obviously if I took up fencer, I wouldn't be able to get master, so that may be a setback. Any input?
Tka Vs. Fencer as an addon to pistoleer, hmm, both have good and bad points.
TKA/Pistoleer/Rogue/Explore 1/Novice Medic
- Has 14 more points than Fencer with the same skills, can get expore 2 and firstaid with 2 points remainingor 2030 for Stim C's with first aid/expore 1
- Meditate - Awesome skill
- Kinetic Only.
- Defense acutiy and dodge DONT stack. (Recent tests are showing that they are not working together. Seems in the last patch, they might have made them weapon-type. block - rifle/pike ;dodge - 1hd sword/pistol; etc)
- +20 defense vs. Knockdown in TKA (Other tests have shown that Def. Vs. XXX do cross over between different weapons)
- Can attack mind with TKA
Fencer/Pistoleer/Rogue/Explore 1/Novice Medic
- 4 Bleeds total, they all stack on health.
- +205 to dodge, works with either weapon. *Dodge's animation currently stops you from running/kiting. So be prepared to actually use the fencer skills
- More ranged and melee defense than TKA
- Can't get firstaid.
- Only +20 to Terrain Neg.
- NO MEDITATE - Very big disadvantage
- +40 Defense vs Knockdown in Fencer
- Stun Baton - Stun damage is Very big PvP advantage. [A few might have stun Helmets, but very few have complete stun composite suit.]

- Dodge doesn't stack, it is weapon dependant.
Dunno how you tested it but when I tried (something like 3000 shots on me with pistols, 1000 without) I clearly noticed a HUGE difference.
What hes saying is that dodge does stack with fencers......I am *guessing* the system works like this...
Dodge is tied into the weapon, like you said.....
However, dodge is tied into, pistols *as well as* swords...So when you hold either of them, you get to use your dodge skill.....
So, 205 dodge might be possible with fencer dodge....
Also, state defense mods most definetly stack, and are not weapon specific....
The jury is out as to whether Dodge from Pistoleer and Fencer stacks ... take a look at my sticky post about Defensesand all the replies for more info on that subject.
As far as the Defense v. _____ stuff goes, it's more likely that those stack. We really need more tests to be sure at this point, but at least the Teras Kasi bonuses seem to stack (but they could be unique because they're not tied to a specific weapon).
