Thread: Using Commando DOT to gain pistol xp?

Any help is appreciated,....


I was thinking of grabbing Flamethrower I ( I think this is the block with the DOT burning attack) to help gain xp solo. I am under the impression that the Flame DOT works the same as our stacking bleeds,..where if you bleed a target and fire a normal pistol shot,...you get max pistol xp for said creature for doing actual physical dmg. Do any of you pistoleer/commando types know if this is true for the flame DOT also?


My goal is to try to solo the bigger creatures by bleeding/burning them and then feign death until they are ripe to be blasted by my stopping shot.


I kind of realize that this would be better answered by Commando's,..but I feel more at home here. My current skills are: Pistoleer 0-0-3-1 - Smuggler: 0-0-1-0 - Commando: Novice - Medic: 0-0-4-0 - Creature Handler: 1-1-0-1 (as you can tell, I am still trying to find my comfortable combination,... Definitely mastering pistoleer)

Yes the flame Dot works.


You can cook em and then use nothing but a pistol and reap all the xp except for about 200 pts that will be given to Heavy Weapons. -I have personally been using an AT-ST to tank mobs... I get about 8 pickets on the AT from having it target the nest. Creep up... Flamecone2 (to put a bleed on all 8 0f them), then take and use fanshot to murderize them... I can pull down about 35k xp every nest which only takes me about 15 mins to slay.


U can use C12. Take and bleed with healthshots and then do not use any pistol except if u have feign death... after the bleed use a couple of drenades and trap them somewheres... like the edge of a ramp to a house placed on a hill.. If u do not shoot it again after u use the bleeds and grenades u can get to where mobs will give u about 3k combat xp each, and about 700 pistol xp...tests done on pickets.


-Everyone can use C12, just be sure to get the advanced stuff... not mob drops

The flame DOT will actually kill.. it doesn't leave 1 health remaining on the target like health bleeds. I also believe that the damage caused by the flame DOT will contribute to heavy weapons experience, and not be "up for grabs" like the damage caused by bleeds.


Even if that were not the case, commandos can't hit the broad side of a barn with the flamethrower til Flame Spec III. Sometimes I'd miss so many times consecutively that I felt like throwing the flamethrower at the enemies. More useful that way.
