Thread: Pistoleer on a budget, part 2!
Im heading towards Master BE+CH (im already MCH), this will leave me with 52 points left over that i intend to put into Pistoleer. Reason for this is because its effective up close which is where i need to be to heal my pets, it also has the range side of it should i need to stand back.I tried melee classes but the mobs just constantly turned on me with the exception of polearm, that had a bit further range than the rest.
I was planning on taking Pistol Grips 1 and Pistol Marksmanship 3. This would give me PBS2 and some extra accuracy.
Just how effective would what i plan to take be, or what would be a more viable alternative?
Yes, i would need to take up the basic pistol skills with the 52 points leaving me with 17 left.
If pistoleer wouldnt be effective enough with such limited points to use is there a different skill that would? (i doubt it)

In addition, the technique line gives you wonderful status defenses. It protects you from knockdown, blind, and a few others at a +40 or more. I am also under the impression that pistol whip is a melee knockdown for a pistoleer, which is a good thing to have.
In the end, they are your points. One thing to bear in mind though, there is a stiff skill point cost to any Elite level I skill, so its most effective to invest in an entire line rather than experiment with various ones. (1/1/1/1 is more expensive than 0/0/4/0).
Looking at the FAQ the Point Blank Area 2 gives the best DPS for such minimal skill requirement, it just needs 1 box where as Fan Shot needs 4.
I could go 1/0/0/3 which gives me PBS2 as and Pistol Whip. Also gives me some extra pistol speed, improved aiming and melee defence.
On a side note, i dont do solo PvP and i generally go hunting with at least 1 other person so having high damage or high defence isnt really a priority. I just require a little extra backup power for when i am caught out alone
do you need to take novice marksman, pistol 1-4, and novice pistoleerout of those 52 points?
if so.... you have 17 left over.
i would say that the technique line would suit you well. fanshot on a group of mobs attacking your pet..... very nice. the bad thing is it would take 14 of your 17 points to get that, not leaving you enough for another box. if you could scrape up 2 more points, i would say that plus stances 1 for pistol whip and the speed boost.
if you are not going to take the ranged support line in marksman though... perhaps the pistol marksmanship would be a greater value. a combination of the stances and marksman lines perhaps? i wouldnt really recommend grips (even though dodge is very nice now). you will still end up using your bleeds and bodyshot 2 a lot...

Unfortunately, PBA2 isn't really AOE, it's single target, and should never be used (use Kip-Up from Marksman if you really want a single target Random HAM shot. But you should really use BodyShot2 in the single target, PvE case).
But a Master CH should go for Fanshot, definitely; that's going to be the biggest bang for the buck in overall DPS; the defense mods in the first and fourth columns aren't as important to a PvE CH player, and neither is Pistol Whip really (especially since you will eventually be able to get state effects like Knockdown by ordering pets to use their specials) and while the speed in the fourth column would be nice, you would get more DPS as a CH having the AOE Fanshot.
Thanks for the info, i wasnt aware Fan Shot was AOE so looks like i will be taking that up now. As for the knockdown, i forgot about the upcoming pet changes so thanks for the reminder
