Thread: TH's Combat Post

Thunderheart's post excites me the way fried chicken no longer can. Imagine the prospect of different levels of our favorite guns and bonuses as we climb the tree. It'll start to make a Master Pistoleer more valuable. Everybody can have a level of FWG5, but only Masters can fire those truly top of the line guns.
There are unique challenges that lie in this and more rewards for going master.
All in all, I think this may potentially be something that makes Master Pistoleer a truly excellent profession. Pistols are the most versitile weapons in the game, and Master Gunfighters using Master Level Pistols, from FWG to Tangle will become more valuable in the overall scheme of things.
Questions, comments? Lets discuss and help bring our own views on these potentially exciting changes.
I don't see how this makes Master-anything more valuable. In fact, I feel extreme trepidation about this whole new 'guns for every level' concept.
1.) Are we talking a 'unique' gun for each level of the chage?
ie. FWG5.1 at MarksmanPistol 3, FWG5.2 at NovicePistoleer, FWG5.3 at PistoleerTech3?
If this is the case, the weaponsmiths are going to revolt. Better yet, we get only FWG5.3's being made because who's going to waste 998 Cond. metal to make a FWG5.1 that's worse than the .3 version? So we get fewer novice guns available and once again, we all grind till we can use the best gun...Which is one of the reasons the FWG5 got nerfed. Not because it was overpowered necessarily, but how many of us used anything else?...Everyone will always gravitate to the best gun. Weaponsmiths will always try to make the very best guns. And if something is being too heavily used, as Q's post about 'why is everyone a novice pistoleer?' has taught us, it means there must be something wrong with it (if you think like the devs do).
2.) Are we talking about 'modifiers' that are applied to the weapon (+max damage) at certain levels?
Then how do I know what I'm buying from a weaponsmith? You mean I have to keep track of TWO different damages now (modified and unmodified) for every type of pistol I own? So I know what to look for when buying from a vendor? And now the equations forpersonal combat effectiveness become even more cloudy with +speed, +damage, +whatever else they decide thrown in to the mix.
I admit this is not as gloomy a proposition as option #1, but it still adds just another level of complexity without seeing anything different from what we already have with the current system (+speed=+DPS)
I see this as basically a total re-write of the combat system. You will not recognize combat three months from now as you understand it today. They want us to change our playstyle and use 'tactics'. Well, last I checked, most creatures don't react well to 'hit and fade' tactics. They tend to stay in your face...the whole time...we had creature tanks...they limited them down...we learned to use them more wisely...they now are stripping them to practical uselessness...Apparently, using tanks is not what they want...
All I know is I'm stripping Erdeid down and now I'm just doing Holos. I love my character the way he is, and I've neverworried with holocronsyet, but if this game isn't gonna be worth playing for 3 months while the devs try to figure out whatkind of combat system theywant, then I'm not going to try and get my character situated the way *I* want.
And believe me, I honestly don't believe the devs know what they want. All they know is what they *don't* want. So everytime something happens that doesn't fit the idea, they'll change it. And with it they'll change it so badly, that it totally gimps the entire system.
I'll start doing Holocrons, try to get me a FSCS slot, then maybe around the Space Expansion, this portionof the game will be out of Beta 3 and I'll come back to playing a normal character.
Here's hoping everything goes according to plan and this whole mess is sorted out in 3 months... ![]()
Now it seems they have let us know that we have been playing a BROKEN product. I cannot believe they threw this into our faces so blatantly. OUCH!!They could have lied to us or at least had the humanity to not insult us like we were ignorant children.
I have stuck by this game through thick and thin... But when I hear that I will be paying them to test things that betas are for, well that is incredible. What do we get for helping them test out their product and help fix it? I mean... they cannot possibly charge us right? People do not charge to play betas, right? I mean... is this serious? Where is the post about three free months?????? They know I will not be able to play with this game for three months!!!! I will not be able to kill anything. I will not be able to do anything but search for Holocrons... I DO NOT WANT TO BE A JEDI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*calms down*
It's a joke, right? Someone in the dev dept. is just playing with us right? PLEASE this cannot be true... it is a hoax. It's gotta be a hoax. No buisiness would do this, would they? There are laws or something against stringing the hopefull along for 4 months promising to fix a product that they sold us broken in the beginning... right?
I don't understand.... Where is the real post? This guy Thunderheart is not a dev, right? He is like a gamer that is the corespondent corespondent, right? Please tell me he is..please please please do not tell me this guy works for SOE... I mean this guy says some incredulous things... he HAS to be off his rocker, right?
-right?
I cannot stomach this... I am going to be sick... I have been paying for a beta? oh god...no please....I worked my butt off in the swg grind sequence for nothing. All that time spent waiting for them, only to get coal in my stocking... I have been good.
I want to play Star Wars. Why dothey keep pushing me away? WHY?
I dealt with the broken professions... the lackluster content, the mass amounts of jedi themed content, the abundance of pets, the lack of droids, the special spamming,...
It has gotten to the point that only the items in the game are named in the star wars theme... Most of the time u forget that it is modeled in the star wars first trilogy since it does not resemble it much anymore.... but that was ok... I figured u gave us alot of freedom to do great things in the template with our charecters... now if this guy is not lying, we will be shunned for doing and gimped. No more cross polinating professions? Different levels of the SAME weapon? It is all lies... it has to be.. *cries* ...it... has to... be ...lies....

Since Thunderheart's post was kind of confusing, let me clear up what he means. Right now we get a ton of pistol certifications in Marksman, and we get one in Novice Pistoleer. That's it.
After these changes, we'll get a whole bunch of pistol certifications ... from Novice Marksman up through Master Pistoleer. They won't all be called "FWG5" ... his point was just that instead of all using FWG5s (or Republic Blasters) we'll be using various pistols as we go up the tree.
This actually makes sense to me, if they do it right. (A big if
) We *should* get new and better pistols as wego up the Pistoleer tree, and our best gun shouldn't be in Marksman but it should be at Master Pistoleer.
maybe they'll spread the certs around to stop people from wanting to get 0,0,4,0 first.. I wish I'd done that.. I could also see the certs being in the combat exp line.
I'm 4,3,4,3! almost there!
