Thread: Why not change the useless + Pistol Speed skills to + Pistol Damage?

Well, As i see it, Rifleman, Carbineer, And Pistoleer have damage:Speed ratios


So Rifleman is High Dmage: slow attack speed
Carbineer: Medium: Medium
Pistoleer: Low Damage: High Speed


But... Rifleman can attack at 1spd wth a 7spd gun that does like 500heavy AP damage. Pistoleer Gets the same **edit**ty amount of damage, AND 1.0spd. And since our guns are all fast already, Why not give us equality and change the +'s to speed to +'s to damage. Or maybe give us some PVP skills? I love the +50 defense to KD and all, but I still get KD'd as much as the next guy.

Err, why would improving your skill with a weapon make it do more base damage? It's gonna hit the target just as hard no matter how skilled you are.

you forget that speed is not just relevant to how fast you shoot your pistol. A master rifleman will never be able to shoot their specials as fast as we can. At least I don't believe they can. I have never been a rifleman, but draw this conclussion from just looking at their time modifiers for specials compared to ours.. Even though they have higher speed than we do, their specials have a much, much longer time modifier. our slowest special is faster than their fastest one. We were never meant to do more or equal damage as a rifleman or carbineer. Think about it, how many guns do you know of that can have the power of a High powered rifle. Not many and those that are very powerful handguns are still limited by their range. Take a M82 for instance....What pistol do you know of that can equal the power of that.A M82 isan automatic sniper rifle and I believe it is 50 caliber. You can put a hole through 3 people at a 200 yards with a M82....I don't think you can do that with a pistol even at close range even. Therefore more shots add up and equals out in total damage. Where a rifleman can take one shot and put you our of your misery.....a pistol 99% of the time will take multiple shots to take down a target...unless of course you shoot someone in the head....


Rifleman do get a very high speed rating though, but not so much more that they can fire everything faster than us. We can spam fanshot at once per second. What rifleman special do you know of that can fire at once per second....I know of none....but like I said, I've never been a master rifleman....so if it is possible let me know.

The speed mod is hardly useless. Once I hit master, I noticed a significant difference in my DPS.

They can autofire at 1 second, but I believe most Rifle specials are above the cap.

I would rather they fixed the **edit**ed up Rifleman and Carbine speed calculation equations and/or lower their+speed modifiersand keep Pistoleer the way it is.

They need to make so they cap speed is different on the classes, like 3 for riflemen, 1 for a carbineer and .5 for us

A rifleman cannot fire any high damage specials at the cap with a 7spd gun unless they're using skill tapes. Even mastering marksman won't cut it. The DPS difference for pistols vs. rifles really isn'tsignificant against unarmored targets. To be specific, a master rifleman fires Strafeshot2 (5x dmg, AoE)with a 7spd rifle once every2.45 seconds.A master pistoleer fires fanshot (4x dmg, AoE) with a 2spd pistol at the cap (every second). The T21 will do about 140-360dmg, the republic blaster will do 65-210dmg (using common numbers from my server). Average DPS against a non-armored target: Rifle: 759dps, Pistol: 550dps. The AP bonus against armored targets of course makes this more significant, but that depends on the specifics of the target.


The big advantage the rifleman has in PvP is targeting the mind pool and the availability of an AP1 stun weapon. The big advantage the pistoleer has is dodge and state defenses.
