Thread: Alright, help my Pistoleer career planning.

First off, i'm going Master Smuggler Master Pistoleer, aka Master of Cracked Weaponry.
The point is, Smuggler..no need for any real equipment buying. All I need are WUKS, AUKES, clamps and knives. So, basically my money revenue goes to Pistoleer.
Here's what i'm working with currently..
Novice Smuggler, 0/3/0/0
Novice Pistoleer, 0/0/1/0
Novice Marksman, 0/4/0/4
Novice Brawler, 4/0/0/0
Now, my equipment..
64% kinetic composite, full set.
77-221ish Modded republic blaster @ 2.9 spd, it has a bleed DoT for 9000 shots.
or
89-183 scout pistol, @ 2.0 spd.
I'm unsure which one to use, both are sliced.
The point is, my friend, a rifleman, has a laser rifle. He already does more damage then me, albeit a bit slower. He's also only marksman 4/0/0/0.
My question is in many parts. First off, is this normal for him to be outdamaging me, even though my shots per second is far superior? Secondly, what weapon should I use? Third, decipher what I should buy coming up. My armor seems fine, I will upgrade to 80something kinetic or stun or hell i'm not really sure on armor for a pistoleer. Likewise, for pistols, what should I am at getting? FWG5 and Dsomethnigs' for acid and heat damage types? What's this nonsense I heard about uber DE-10s'? Someone help a newbie out

Ok help form one Pistoleer/Smuggler to another. here's the deal.
Combat: Until the revamp, you are not going to do that well in PvP (or High level PVE for that matter) for a couple of reasons.
1. Pistoleer is uber broken right now (3/4 of the specials are broken or useless. "Stopping shot" anyone?)
2. Other Combat classes (melee and ranged) that are not as broken will own you every time, no matter how much composite you have on. Although I do suggest getting some better composite armor. For fighting monsters and other things that do kinetic, get a nice set of Ubese Armor, as it usually has almost as good (I've seen as high as 77% preslice) Kinetic protection for much less encumbrance, and looks pretty sweet, mind you. As a Pistoleer/Smuggler, style should be important for you. That, or pick fights with Image Designers and Chefs. Just watch out for the knives...
3. The reason a rifleman or commando or whoever will do better against you is that we, as pistol people, have a very limited selection of actually useful wepons. Lets break it down for the kids:
CDEF, D18, Combat Pistol, Striker Pistol - Might as well throw rocks at them. Seriously...
-Scout Blaster. FAST, nice at lower levels. I have one that does 1.6 spped PREslice. But it's not armor peircing. That's bad.
-Dl44 and Metal 44- Sure Han had one, but they aren't that great. Slower than a Scout Blaster... about the same damage.Still not armor piercing. Still bad.
- FWG - This one does heat damage, which is nice to have around for things that are suspectible to it, but also, not armor piercing.
- DX2 - My pistol of choice for right now. It's reasonibly fast ~2.4 (SHOP AROUND), good damage (for a pistol)and does acid damage (mine is min Damage 106) which is very effective against a lot of things. Also, It's Armor Piercing 1, which means it will go through most armor. This is important.
- Republic Blaster. Yours is ok, but find a faster one. 2.9 is really slow, even for a R. Blaster. Look for one in the 1.4-1.3 range, probably sliced. Good energy pistol and it's Armor Peircing 1. Also looks goofy.
- Geo Sonic Blaster. Haven't used one yet, but alright on the damage and its stun, which not very many people have a whole lot of protection to. Getting a good one will cost you though. Most of the ones I see are too slow for me. Shop around, see what you like. Save up. maybe buy one. Perhaps someone else can give you more infohere.
- DE10. Good luck finding one of these for less then a million and a half. But if you can, as far as I understand, it's MONEY, baby! Still only AP1 though. You can't use it until Master Pistoleer anyway.
My strategy? Keep one pistol of each type on you. Keep a good DX2, A good Republic Blaster, and an FWG around. Look for the best you can afford. Get em sliced if they aren't already. You neeed every edge you can get. Have all of your different pistols assigned to toolbar slots and then /examine what you are fighting to see what its Resist/Vuln's are and switch to the pistol of the appropriate type. You're workhorse will be the DX2 though. For pistols mods, I usualy go with high MIN damage mods, because if you have a fast pistol, having a higher min damage will do you better in the longer run, near as I can tell. Look for ones that increase speed AND min damage.
As for PvP, do it with people you trust and learn, but never battle anyone seriously because you WILL lose. Use that intimidate and war cry from your Smuggler unarmed grind. They still work with a pistol in your hand. Also, start getting the dirty fighting line from Smug ASAP maybe look into Bounty Hunrt Pistols as well. I also suggest a few levels of Medic.
Be clever. This is your biggest asset. Group with stronger combat PC's (like your rifleman buddy). Let themagro the monsters and thenkneeldown and blast away. Cheap? Yes. Effective. Yes.Spam health2 and/or body shot2 , Overcharge if you don't care about wrecking the pistol. Use Fan Shot when you get it. (I don't have this yet either as I'm only Pistoleer 0/0/1/0)Make liberal use of burst run. Pistolleers should be fast and maneuverable, but unfortunately, in game terms, we are not any of those things any more than some other combat class. So you have to think fast. We are obviously not playing Smugg/Pistoleer for the combat ability ::cough:: I play it because Its fun and it's challenging. Which is why I play games.
Migrate your satats. You want a very decent mind and action. Focus on the secondaries that enhance the HAM rechrage rate of the primary over ones that enhance HAM cost.
These, of course, are my own findings on the subject. and not to be taken for anything but... Other's please add/critique... I'd love to hear what other's are thinking....

I'd get some melee in your template as well but thats just me, a bit of fencer would really help, apart from that all I can say is speed,speed,speed!!. Get speed slices and speed powerups so you can get your dx2 down to about 1.2-1.3 speed and the same with any other pistols (you should be able to get a fw5g down to 1.0 and the same with a DL44 or scout blaster). I'd stick with a DX2 for the most part as it has good min damage and acid is always a safe bet against most mobs.The pistoleer speed cap is a joke atm so to hit stoppingshot/last ditch near the speed cap, even at masterpistoleer, you still need a really fast weapon.
Your friend with the laser rifle won't be hitting the target that much at marksman 4000 and he'll be quite slow, rifles aren't too accurate till master or at least the top of the accuracy tree (citrus snow cake helps a lot though).But in general rifles perform much better than pistols for damage, even at low rifleman levels. De10's are the only energy pistols to do rifleman type damage but the cost will make this hard to get till you make a lot of money or get the components yourself.
For the moment use Dx2's, Republic blasters and a geo pistol as your main 3 pistols, but keep a striker pistol handy for kinetic damage and an fwg5 for heat damage. As for foods use aircake or pikitta pie for dodge, citrus snow cake for accuracy, synthsteak for damage reduction and maybe some thaktillo for KD defence and plenty of brandy.
So just remember to concentrate on speed, and keep looking for pistol speed tapes to make you quicker. You need something like 12 more pts to hit the speed cap on all shots (not exactly sure but it's something like that).
Check the stickies at the top of the pistoleer page for tips because those guides are really good, also check Caylin's pvp guide on the smuggler boards as it's really well written.
Since you have intimidate from brawler don't forget to use it all the time
