When I started Pistoleer, all I heard was how great fan shot was. Once I got it, Ididn't notice much different other than I had more animals running after me when hunting than I did before. Then I noticed that the damage I was getting with stopping shot was superior then that of Fan shot - With stopping shot around 1500-2000 per shot. With fan shot around 900-1300. I stopped using fan shot and I stopped dying as much and my exp grew faster too.

Since mastering pistoleer, I do use fan shot in some situations butalmost in every situation I use stopping shot sometimes combined with melee defense 1.

Maybe fan shot should be a lower special.

The beauty of fanshot is, it has the ability to get to stopping shot, and even sometimes a last dtich level of damage, every second even if your using a 2.5 speed gun.

The downside is the HUGE farking difference between its max and minimun damage ranges, and almost always stays around the 600-1300 dmg range, almost always, and will occasionally give you a run of bad luckwith sub 600 hits in a row.

however, when used properly, it can REALLY rake in the exp.

Fan Shot should cause more damage per second than Stopping Shot. Check out the DPS calculator and see if it is better for you.

Also I like hitting attacking my target concurrently rather than consecutively.

Now if stopping shot also induced a posture change...

I checked out the calculator, and it says fan shot is faster. But what good is that if another deadly animal comes running at you while you're focusing on another?

Also, I keep my combat window open and I noticed better hits with stopping shot vs fan shot. Much better. Also I didn't notice a speed difference while using it.

Specials don't effect damage range directly. They merely multiply damage, so the higher the multiplier the larger the damage range. Thus, by that logic, stopping shot has a larger damage range than fanshot.

This is hillarious coming from a fellow Pistoleer/ch/medic. Do you just not use your pets? Send your pet on the target, get ALL the creatures agro'd on your pet, then spam the heck out of fanshot. It's one of the very BEST PvE builds in the game. Vs. multiple targets i can easily out do bh's, commando's, smugglers, tka. Rifleman/CH are the only other competition.

Fanshot is better speed wise until you hit master, I have the BH pistol tree as well and my stopping shots fire at virtually the same speed as fanshot so I use that more. They're both good, just use common sense.

Your not using good tactics with fan shot. You gotta be more careful. Keep an eye on your radar and make sure that only critters you want in your AOE are in it. Imagine your radar as a pie, with 8 slices, keep your targets in the slice in front of you, if there is something in the pie you don't like (Like a Jedi Master or a Pecan) adjust your position or stick with stopping shot. I too felt the same way about fan shot at first, but once I started using it properly I saw what the others were saying.

Also, as someone mentioned, if you CH fan shot is even better, toss them in to aggro everything and then just open up with fan shot. I have taken down HOARDS of critters at once this way. Stopping and Fan are pretty much the only specials I use anymore, with PM1 hotkeyed for emergencies or fun. Even though the knockdown timer sucks I still like that windmill animation, makes me feel like Pete Townshend.

Med Skills is a must with fan shot to, not only does it argo stuff, your entier action bar is used up every20seconds or so. Its disgusting how much action it uses.

Just repeating what everyone's saying.. you're not using fanshot properly. I'm still trying to get master, doing quenker missions, and whenever I can I use fanshot. I can kill 4 in the time it used to take me to kill 2, and this is without a tank. As a CH you should be able to do a lot more with fanshot.

Fan shot definitely is a boon for me while doing savage quenker missions.
Get buffed up really well head to a savage quenker mission. If you are buffed enough you can start shooting the lair with fan shot and continue until it's gone. At this time, there will be at least 6 savage quenkers headed for you. This is where fan shot owns. Run around and make them chase you while spamming fanshot.

Strategy matters with Fanshot.

Use with care near lairs -- I don't know how many times I've died because somebody else in the group was spamming Fanshot near the lair and spawning a new round of Rancors we weren't ready for.

When you are aggroed by multiple creatures, Fanshot is very much your friend. Target the creature with the HIGHEST level of HAM and hammer Fanshot ... the weaker critters around the target will die off as you pile up damage, and once the target is the only thing left standing you can switch to Stopping Shot to finish it off.

I joined a sharnaff group and at the site started hammering fanshots all over the place, if its a good group then they will handle it, if its a newbie groups... well you will keep hering agry voices saying "who the heck is shooting the lair"

Fast level it is, not many friends you will have...
