Thread: DL44 Pistols
i would grab a scout blaster, SR combat pistol, or FWG5 pistol first........ it's sad to say that one of the "most powerful pistols" is one of the crappiest ![]()
DL-44's are only really good for destroying lairs and low-lvl grinding or as a decoration on your wall
The DL44 metal is actually a better weapon but when you get the novice pistoleer box, you most likely will want to pick up a DX2. It has armor piercing and does acid damage. That is resisted less than the energy of the DL44.
That DL44 will still be a decent weapon and even if you pick up another gun like the DX2, you will still have need of it. Slicing is relatively inexpensive and is worth it for any weapon or armor you plan to use for any amount of time. Think of it as a permanent powerup for your weapon.
If money is a little tight, use the search feature and find a smuggler that is not wearing the slicer or Master Smuggler title. Someone wearing Novice Smuggler would work best because that means they probably haven't mastered any of the trees yet. They will not be able to get the best slice possible for you but they are a lot more likely to cut you a deal on a slice.

I used DL44's and DL44 Metals until I made novice pistoleer. From there, I used a dx2 for most of my smuggler grind and a decent republic for most of my pistoleer grind. You definitely want to pick up a FWG5 sometime and maybe a striker in reserve.
The DL44 is a great marksman weapon. It can be sliced to a great speed and has pretty good damage output. Granted, my DL44 was a cut above the rest (and I just happened upon it when I didn't really know what was good or bad for pistols), but I really got a lot of use out of it.
DL44, Republic, and Scout (and tons of crappier pistols) are all energy weapons. The republic hits harder and the scout hits faster. After slicing, my two republics were better than the DL44 and Scout because the slices made my damage per second better than either of the others would. Of course, as I added pistoleer skills, the speed advantage of the scout became less relevent anyway because my personal speed was better.

The reason why you want an FWG5, Dx2, and maybe a striker (strikers are relatively weak in their damage per second; that's why I say 'maybe') is for different types of damage. The FWG5 is a heat weapon, the Dx2 is an acid weapon, and the striker is kenetic. Since different creatures have resists to different types of damage, it's handy to have them all. The Geo pistol and the tangle pistol do stun damage, but the tangle is super-weak and it's hard to get a GOOD Geo pistol. Plus, stun damage is only useful in PvP, not the grind.
stun pistols can be useful during grinding........ against savage quenkers (vulnerable to stun) and using pointblankarea1, you won't draw out more mobs by tapping the lair but deal damage to all the quenkers
although this is only REALLY useful with a good geo pistol though, since most tangles really REALLY suck actually, even if they do have stun dmg
I spent 12k each on my republics. 6k on my DL44's and I don't remember the others
