Thread: Advice on Pistoleer Build

I hit Master Pistoleer yesterday...and I find myself ready to drop the profession already. I have wanted to be a Master Pistoleer since launch a year ago, finally got around to doing it. I knew most of the specials were broken, and I knew we were fairly useless in PvP without signifigant dabbling, but I had to see for myself whether everything everyone said about Pistoleers was true.

It is.

Before giving up so soon, however, I kind of want to try a Pistoleer build, but that is going to mean giving up my Medic skills (I am Master Medic right now, as well), and I am extremely wary of doing so unless this build has some merit. I am trying to come up with a build that has both PvE and PvP usefulness, which is very tough, and would like some constructive criticism on this idea:

Novice Medic

Novice Commando

BH 0/0/4/0

Smuggler 0/0/4/0

Pistoleer 3/3/4/2

You get access to the three Pistoleer pistols plus the Scatter pistol and Launcher Pistol. This lets you do Energy, Kinetic, Stun, Acid, Heat, and Blast damage.

You get the two working Pistoleer specials plus EyeShot, TorsoShot, and LastDitch, which let you put two states on someone, target Mind, have a decent AoE shot, and one high-damage shot.

Accuracy is +140 and Speed is +97, both of which should put you well above the cap.

Dodge is only +60, but in PvP you are going to be running with a group unless you want to get slaughtered and should not be a priority target anyway, and you can still throw heals on yourself in a pinch.

The wayI see it, this is an excellent PvE build. You can do lots of damage extremely quickly, and should be able to find a weapon to cut through resistances in every situation unless you are on the Corvette and need to be able to do Cold damage, in which case you can usean SG82 as you are a Master Marksman and stay in the backfield.

For PvP, you can take Air Cake to supplement the lost Dodge points and Snow Cakes to keep your effectiveness as a runner-and-gunner, with roomleft over for Ahrisa or Synthsteak, whichever is your preference. With your requisite Brawler skills for Novice Commando you can Warcry and Intimidate, as well.

So, the first question is: do you think this idea has any merit, with the caveat that such a build could only PvP in a group or 1-on-1 in certain, isolated cases(which I find to be the case in general, anyway, being a Pistoleer)?

If you drop Novice Medic, you can retake Master Pistoleer with all the bonuses that entails. So the second question is, with such a build, would it be better to drop Novice Medic to keep Master Pistoleer? I am very wary of not having ANY med skills at all such that I can throwa stim on in the middle of a fight.

Thanks in advance for your advice. I really want to keep Pistoleer, but if PvE is all it is good for (and not terribly good at that), I am going to find it difficult to justify tying up the skill points until the combat balance and the hopeful fixes to the profession that should entail.

This is a Master Pistoleer

Master Pistoleer

BH

0040

Fencer

3400-------or-----0430

This template is Brutal and effective in pvp against any class other than CM and jedi

There is almost noting you cant do in pve with it either

with Armor Buffs and the right food and drink Its the ultimate ive found for pistol fun and versitile in pve and pvp

accuracy is almost as good as rifle and speed lets you fire any special at 1 second

eyeshot , torso shot and bleed shots are fine additions to health shot 2 pistol melee defense 1 and 2 and fan shot

Now that BH is a Dabber profession like we have always been we can Finally become Real Masters of our own profession and become a feared and respected profession in pvp again

I have to agree with the post above, my friend is a Master Pistoleer/0040 BH/combination of Fencer skills, and he is almost unhittable.

Only problem with that build is you have no medic skills whatsoever. I like to solo a LOT, so I need at least Novice.

But it seems more and more like Fencer is the way to go for defense stats. I'll play with the numbers and see what I can do. Thanks.

If you want medic, just get a bit less in fencer, and get novice medic.

I didnt like giving up medic either but it was nessary for the template to be effective......if your bufed medic isnt a must

for mild pve the right food and drink can be almost as effective as medic

the only drawback is not being able to heal a incapped player

What's the point in getting Fencer Technique skills? I thought dodge doesn't stack anymore.

.... uhhh.. nvm, I see its probably for the melee mitigation.

Dodge stacks with itself, and only comes into play when you have a fencer weapon or a pistol. counterattack and block do not stack with dodge, as you need to have the appropiate weapons equipped to get the bonuses.

also, the techniques line in fencer gives you pretty good defense Vs. states which do stack as well.
