Thread: Noob Pistoleer

I've been doing medic stuff for a really long time, but I always had Pistol 4 in marksman. So, when I realized I had enough pistol exp to get the novice in pistoleer I was really psyched. I was then rather disappointed to see that there is only one pistoleer pistol (DX2), which a master told me not to use because "it sucks right now". Also, that we can't use scatter or launcher and that to my knowledge there is not ranged knock down which doesn't seem to make much sense. Also from the faq posted some of the best specials don't work. Bummer. Any advice from the higher level pistoleers would be greatly appraciated. What are the best guns, specials, columns to hit first, mission or mobs for exp, etc.
Thanks.

I have the same question. I just got to Novice Pistoleer and received the certification for the DX2 and was told by several people not to use it as it was not as good as the FWG5.

I've checked the stats on the FW and the DX and the FW seems to be better on the few DXs I've been able to find. The real issue that I was told is that the AP value is not working on the DX2 or it would be better.

Is the AP bonus on the DX2 not working?

Thanks,

ok, i guess i can make a few comments.

yes we only get the DX2 with pistoleer, they have said they plan on adding weapons to all the professions...i'll leave it at that.

people say the best gun we can get is a fwg5(stats wise), but i find that every gun has its place. i always examine mobs before fighting too see what their weakness are and pick a gun that fits. i have 2 DX2s and 1 fwg5, and 3 launcher pistols atm(been dabbling in commando to pass the time)

i went up the styles column first, use to be called stances and grips(the new name i can't remeber) to get fan and stopping shot. then i did the column with speed modifiers.

as for missions or mobs for xp i don't know what to suggest every thing i did to get to master seems to have changed. also i had the benifit of unrestricted KDing

I actually always use a DX2 unless the creature is immune to it. I've found that when I use a dx2 I always put out the most damage and get the most xpwhen my guild goes hunting. I might switch to a CDEF when I get to master so my guildmates can catch up. I generally tend to carry 2 DX2s, 1 FWG5, 1 Scout Blaster, 1 DL44 Metal, 1 DH18?, 1 Republic Blaster, and 1 CDEF Pistol. My other profession is squad leader, so I dont really have to carry much in my inventory, or really any worth, but whatever.

Since most creatures have no resists against the acid based DX2...will do more damage.....but it's range does bite. You have to learn to check who you are going up against......you need just about one or two of each pistol.....and get them sliced and powered up. Plus DX2s seem to bemuch quicker....I think down to 1.7 or 1.6....I have also found that when being chased and using bodyshot 2 with the DX2....I miss one out of 5 times....not to bad. If I try to hit the bugger without using a special shot with the DX2 and over 20M away....forget about it you will never hit it.

Action item......just pick up a few different pistols and experiment with the various specials and pistols.

Eveyone will tell you something different.....just figure out what fits your style of playing.

I have Scout, FWG, and DX2. I use all, depending on what type of mob. Additionally, since the Scout has low HAM cost and doesn't cost nearly as much as the others, I use it to shoot lower-level mobs; why use a cannon when a peashooter will get the job done. You save wear and tear and power-ups on your more expensive and therefore harder to replace, weapons.

Also, for lower level mobs, I sometimes won't use pistol at all, since you only get 4 or 5 pistol xp and 1 or 2 combat xp--it's not worth the wear and tear. Use a carbine or rifle and since you're not as high a level with those weapons, you get more combat xp, which is useful for that line in Pistoleer. the carb and rifle xp just builds up, I may never use it, but the combat xp is good as the Pistoleer line doesn't differentiate in what weapon you earned it with, combat xp is combat xp.

I love my scout blaster. I'm not a BH dabbler, and I can spam stoppingshot with it at nearly 1.0 speed, with the average hit around 1000 damage. Nightsisters go POP POP POP. Bwahahahaha...

Go bounty and get the scatter. Ihave been loving it the past 3 days having that gun. Even had enough pistol xp for eyeshot.

If you are grinding I'd advise building up techniques first. Use double tap when you hit tech 2, stopping shot at tech 3, and fan shot when you hit tech 4. At tech 2 you also get a geo blaster certification.

I used quenkers on Dantooine at lower ranks (around 3000 XP each and easy kills) and then savage quenkers (around 4000 XP and not much harder) when I got stronger. Group with a pet or join a "solo group" and you'll get a group XP bonus.

Thanks. I'm not really grinding, Im just attempting to acquire enough combat skills to be able to loot janta blood for buffsand participate in guild hunts. I was hoping to find out if I could handle Jantas and other high end mobs with pistoleer. I will do as you say though and work up the tech tree first, a couple guildies suggested that too. I also just bought some great composite and I need to recover the cost of that with mission payouts. Let me know if you think jantas are doable. Thanks.

no u wouldnt be able to unless u got a really good geo gun and good armor. u would have to dip into another proff cuz pistoleer doesnt have enough speed. unless u pull one at a time then u could do it.
