i have an alt that is working on pistoleer. i love the idea of blasters. they say 'Star Wars' to me more than ANY OTHER PROFESSION in the game (save Jedi of course).
i can tell you however that it does not make any sense to me to try to make a pistoleer of my main character. the 'hand-howitzers' of rifleman firing at the speed cap so far out-weighs the damage done by my pistoleer character it is not even funny.
i will continue to level my alt to master pistoleer in hopes that the combat rebalance will make a useful character of the toon. i truly love the idea of blasters, but you are correct. it is just outright silly how much more powerful rifle is than pistol. not just in a 'well in RL rifles are more powerful than pistols' kind of way. but in a speed-cap hitting, special spamming, 3-5k damage dealing, working specials, no-need to pick up a second profession to improve speed and accuracy, hand-howitzer toting, mob-stealing, jaw dropping OMG!!! kind of way.
i just wanted to add that i think the player who bullied you out of your spot is a jack-arse. not only gives rifleman a bad name, but game-play in general.

They do fire entirely too fast for the damage they do...I hope that it will be fixed very soon...

I personally hope the new speed mod calculations can't bring special attacks to a speed faster than the weapon's speed rating. That might make a person think twice before equiping that damage sliced T21 with a 7.3 speed rating. Sure, strafe 2 might hit an area for 3500+ damage, but when that is once every 5 seconds (when a speedpowerup is attached) versus say once every 2 seconds thata pistoleer is hitting for 1500+ damge that starts to look pretty darned balanced. The major SNAFU in combat balance, other then allowing armor to absorb too much damage, and buffs to negate what does get through, is the way speed is calculated. IMHO, speed caps should be determined by the weapon used (force enhancements and skill attachmentsshould allow for the normal cap to be broken), every master should get +100 speed, allowing them to fire specials off at their weapon'sspeed rating. I would like to be able to justify going back to pistols, since health targeting works nicely with polearm hit 3. I just can't see dropping rifles as it now stands.

I'm sticking with pistoleer.... but at the momnet pistoleer really really sux.
I've been playing SWG since it's release and I made my character a TKA master 3 months after SWG went live. Five months ago I decided to have a ranged profession to compliment master Teras Kasi, but little did I know the suprise I was in for... lol.
Last night I wastraining for force sensitivexp when a master rifleman rudely started attacking the mob's that were in my spot. What was sofunny was how fast she was killing the mob's. She was killing four Imperial storm troopers in less than 1/4 time than it would take me to kill them. After bullying me for 10 min's she paused and asked me how pistoleers can tolerate doing no damage. Truth was, is that she was simply killing the Imperial storm trooper mob's so fast that it would of been a waste of time for me to stay in that spot because it would of been a waste ofexpensive buff's trying to gainxp when she was killing them so fast that Iwas virtually gaining nothing in the way of xp, and whats more funny was that she was killing them so fast that I had a tuff time even getting looting rights... lol. So the bully won.
As for the weapons she and I were using, she was using a T-21 and...well I can tell you that she wasn't using a Krayt tissue enhanced rifle. As for me, I was using a non-Krayt tissue enhanced, modified republic blaster that made 334 point's of max damage.
let's be honest here and face reality. The reality is that master pistoleers sux and there is no if's and's and but's about it. We just plain stink.
Almost all of our special attacks don't work right or don't work at all. All my master level special attacks have been completely worthlessfor me since the day I made master pistoleer. In most combat situations it would be suicide for my character to use a pistol in combat because he simply can't damage his targets fast enough.
Some of you might be saying: Why don't you use a Genosian sonic blaster of a Krayt tissue enhanced pistol then? And I would anwser that by saying, why should I be forced to pay a huge amount of credits for expensive pistols just to be really effective in PvP orPvE?
As we all know, our specials need to be fixed and we need to have a better pistol that's equal to the bounty hunters scatter pistol and as affordable as a bounty hunters scatter pistol. And on top of that, it must be a Pistoleer only weapon.
I'm sticking with postoleer because I am hoping that the combat revamp this spring will make pistoleer worth while and fun, but until then.... pistoleer really really sux.

Good luck to you!
Being a Master Ranger, I don't have the spare SP to play with making Master Pistoleer better (I think its stupid that you have to dabble to make a Master Elite profession better, but thats another thread entirely).
So I've deceided to go the Master Rifleman route. Eventually, I'll unlock my alt character and make him the Pistol dabbler extrodinare! Until then, Adieu!

My question is... Why do the Devs let the rifleman profession go on the way it is when they know it is unbalanced?
I also love how people are calling it a "Combat Rebalance", as if it is round 2 but how can you call it a Rebalance when it was never balanced to begin with?

I find it funny how our specials (well those that work anyway) mostly target Health - the largest HAM on average, while Rifle specials target Mind - the smallest HAM bar on average. Seems out of wack. Shouldn't the weapon that does the most damage (rifles) have specials that attack the largest bar (and pistols the smallest) to give some semblence of balence?
