Thread: Highest tolerable SAC for a Pistol?

To introduce myself, since this is my first post in the istoleer forum, I'm a weaponsmith on Flurry and have a MBH/Master Smuggler alt. I know how important SAC values are for smugglers and riflemen, but I don't have a feel for how important SAC is for Pistoleers. I've read the first page here this morning and see too much discussion on SAC. As you know, there is a trade off between Damage (min/max damage and speed) and SAC.

I have a few questions please:

What is the highest tolerable SAC for a pistol when you purchase it?
Do you buy SAC power ups?

So for example, as a smuggler,
I prefer SAC<80 weapons with damage or speed power ups, because if I run out of PUPs at least my SAC is still low.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

90 SAC would be the limit on considering a pistol to purchase. You'll still hit max damage on the creation, because I'd bring krayt tissues or gorax shards (depending on the pistol), so I'd probably want SAC reduced after the maxdamage cap is hit.

I wouldn't be using damage PUPs, but either speedPUPs (if the SAC is really low on the pistol created, 65-75) orSAC PUPs (if the SAC ended up75-90.) So yeah, I do buy SAC PUPs.

Pretty much the same as Nifty, but I tend to want my pistols powered up to under 60 SAC at least.

Do all power ups have a positive stat and a negative stat nowdays? I know my pre-cu ones do, but I thought I saw some new ones with two positive stats. If they are all trade-offs, what is the negative aspect of SAC power ups?

Accuracy, which is quite nicely negated by thepositive accuracy mods on a featherweight FWG5.

On Kettemoor we actually have a darn fine crafter who has made these without the accuracy penalty. We get something like a little over 20% reduction in our SAC with a 0% accuracy penalty. I buy crates of them ever week and just hope he never stops making them!

OoOoOooohhh. Nice. I don't think I could stomach an accuracy penalty. That's a big hit to dps (your real dps, not the crap listed on the guns) since it affects not only how often you hit but how hard. But those power-ups would be nice.

Interesting, personally I take Crispic or snowcake to help negate PuP accuracy mods, but I'd love to see a breakdown on the stats ranges for PuPs. There is a post on the Artisan forum but it really just explains what stats a mod affects rather than the actual range to expect. I'm guessing this is tricky to do as uping one stat by experimenting will have a negative effect on the second stat.

Gift.

He is indeed a 14 point artisan, I also think he is a Master Force crafter. The rest of his powerups are amazing too with barely any negative costs but I've stuck with these figuring I'd rather be able to shoot non-stop than hit for higher damage. Each to their own. ( I also use the ranged accuracy foods, you can never have too much accuracy! )

I'm more of a "shoot more" kind of person than "more damage".
