Once you hit Master Pistoleer, is FS still the best as far as damage/second?

I always find bodyshot3 too slow tbh when compared too fanshot, and the ham costs seem higher but that might my imagination.
Anyway just get smuggler and last ditch, then all your woes will go.

Ooh, I've been thinking of doing the Smuggler-Dirty Fighting tree but then I'd have to drop all of my medic skills. I don't think I'd last long without being able to heal myself, unless Feign Death would compensate somehow. My other points are taken up by Master Dancing and I could never give that up. :-)

Feign Death is the emergency move for me, the other 3 specials are much more important. My first PvP after i got DF 4 was great, the guy didn't know what hit him, panic shot, low blow, last ditch and goodnight. Then when his 4 mates get angry burst run while spamming fanshot. Was great, i am actually some use in PvP.
But if you can't get them use fanshot, its our best special by far.

I'm a Master Gunfighter who mostly plays in PvE and I find Body Shot 3 quite useful... more useful in fact than Stopping Shot or Fanshot. Stopping Shotis random HAM which I always tend to dislike and Fan Shot takes too muchcare (don't want to hit those mean looking Rancors behind that Baz Nitch, do you?).Because of my +74 to speed I am able to spam BS3 once per second on any weapon with a 1.6 speed or lower. So, while I may chew through my action bar, I chew through my enemy's health bar much more quickly.
However, in PvP, Stopping Shot (if you don't have Last Ditch)seems to be the way to go. I was only doing double digits of damage with BS3, while I was hitting around 250 with SS.
I recently decided to take up the Smuggler Dirty Fighting line too, and I also had to get rid of Novice Medic for it. I've only had Feign Death, Panic Shot, and Low Blow for a day now.. but so far, I LOVE them... who needs to heal damage when you can just knockdown your opponent or even just delay them for 10 seconds. And if worse comes to worst, feign death.
I'd say just give Smuggler a try for a few days, maybe a week. If you don't like it (hah!) it won't be much trouble to get Novice Medic back.
