Ok. I've been reading up on some articles and posts about different templates. I've gone over some of them and I've gotten my choice down to a couple options. My question to you is, which of these templates would work the best in PVP, PVE, which makes the most money, and the general pros and cons to each. This would probably help sum up some other posts as well, so if anyone could help out with this please do.

Template #1:

Master pistoleer + BH 0040 + medic skills

Template #2

Master pistoleer + BH 0040 + Dirty Fighting 4 + EITHERInvestigation 3 or Slicing 3

Template #3

Master pistoleer + Master Smuggler + Medic

Thanks again for your help.

Template 1 is probably the best for pvp. It gives you speed and good skills to use in combat, and the medic skills allow you to heal yourself. Unfortunately, it leaves you a little weak on the defensive side of things. You get certed for the scatter pistol, which is a good pistol to have.

Template 2 gives you all the pistol specials, which is a big plus, as the smuggler skills may be the best, and you can still use the scatter. You'd still be viable in pvp, but again, a little weak in defense. Investigation 3 will let you hunt jedi, but big deal, as you will get your butt handed to you. Slicing 3 is pretty useless though. Unless you're a master smuggler, you won't really use it for anyone other than yourself, and you're still better off going to a master smuggler because the results will be better. After slicing one, so you can slice terminals and get more money, unless you're going to master, use the SP elsewhere.

Template 3 is still good for pvp, but not as good as the first two. You won't max out pistol speed, and you won't get eyeshot from the BH tree. You also don't get the scatter cert. Again, you can heal yourself.

Overall, pistoleer is not a very good pvp profession atm. I can work, and if you know what to do, you can hold your own, but if you're heavy into pvp, maybe you'd want to look elsewhere first, as it can get frustrating.

BTW, some other possible templates you may want to look at is getting at least novice commando, so you have access to the launcher pistol, and the popular "triple threat" of Master pistoleer, master smuggler, and TKM. You don't have medic skills to heal yourself, but meditate can heal poison/disease and heal wounds after the fight.

Why not just go MBH + MP. Smuggler skills are deadly over rated. No one can convince me that the smuggler specials are worth giving up the flexability of MBH. Trust me, I know, haveing just completed Master Smuggler and Master Pistoleer. In short Ive given up incredible power of a MBH for the dubious ability to slice and make spices.

Effectivly, Ive skilled myself right out of the PvP viability arena. I did this with the belief the the Combat Revamp was right around the corner (along with smuggler revamp)...dont I feel stupid now. Ive been kicking myself since the 22July announcment for giving up MBH. Oh well, got a badge outta the whole thing.

Smuggler specials are pretty good, but IMO are wasted skill points, you get no defensive bonus, no accuracy or speed, no way to damage the mind. In short, your pretty much only suited for PVE. Which aint bad, in and of itself but if you want to PVP youll be rather ineffective until they do something with the HAMs and Mind damage. I wouldnt recommend anyone to get any smuggler skills if your not intending to go "whole hog" and master it. Its just not worth the points. You have no defences, no offensive bonuses. You have a total of 4 specials of which only two are of any use at all.

With MBH you get, stun, dizzy, blind, bleed, burn, knockdown, plus a bit o Heavy Weapons.

With Master Pistoleer you get, health bleed, and a bunch of wonderful defences, range mitigation, etc.and speed increases to your bounty pistol line.

With Smuggler you get, knockdown, and a delay.

So...

MBH + MP == A Bounty Hunter with exceptional pistol skills

MP+ MS == A Smuggler with exceptional pistol skills (not impossible to PVP just not as good as MBH)

MP+BP (Bounty Pistols)+DF (Dirty Fighting)== A Pistoleer with PVP viability

Just a tip: drop the medic, you dont need it. PVE youll likely be buffed, and PVP if you have to start healing your done for anyhow cause someone will start hitting your mind.

My 2 cents,

I went... Master Pistoleer, BH 0/0/4/0, Teras Kasi 0/3/0/4. I have awesome accuracy and speed with my pistol andmany more specials. With Teras Kasi I have Melee Mitigation 2 and more ranged/melee defense.

Ok you make a good point, gooney - i just have one question for you.

You have master pistoleer- which would be better- to go for master BH, or to only have BH pistols 4 and then go for TKA meditate and some TKA defense trees?

and not having medic does make sense

you make some good arguments. I think after hearing what people have been saying on this thread and others, that I'll stick with my plan and go Masterpistoleer + BH pistols 4 + Meditate 4 + TKA defense tree 3

Personally force of will and powerboost will probly come in handy for me, in pvp AND pve, and the extra defense would be nice. I would have gone MBH but theres really nothing that it offers except better use of different guns, but I dont plan on using a carbine or a LLC (maybe in an emergency against like a turret or something) and investigation is a pain in the a$$. Thanks again for your help you guys =)

That really comes down to personal preference. Personally, I would go MBH, but thats just me, I have an aversion to all things melee...

The TKA Meditate line is actually pretty useful. Thing is I cant think of any time when I would rather have had meditate instead of more ranged combat skills. Others swear by it. But for me its more of a novelty than anything else. I dont have novice medic either, although, with the coming changes to HAMs I may have to re-evaluate my position on that.
