Thread: squad leader for defence?

what do you think of this template?
(please note the smugler is for specials and a little content)
bh pistols, smuggler dirty fighting, pistoleer dodge tree and geo cert, squadleader 0034( +25 ranged & +25 melee def)
just your thoughts?

I think you mean the following:
Smuggler 0040
Bounty Hunter 0040
Pistoleer 4020
Squad Leader 0034
(This leaves you with 0 skill points left over.)
Interesting idea, never seen it before. But you still have only 29 melee defense total, only 42 ranged defense total, only ranged mitigation 1, and no melee mitigation at all. No defense vs knockdown, dizzy, or posture change. Very little defense against stun or blind. Frankly, your defenses stink. You'd be much better off dropping squad leader and either the top skill box in BH or smuggler and taking master pistoleer; your defenses and accuracy with a pistol will increase immensely.
Or if you really have something against master pistoleer, or you can't stand to give up any smuggler or BH, just take 0304 TKA. You will get the following bonuses:
* Combat Equilibrium (allowing you to recover instantly from a posture change with a save)
* Some KD and posture change defense (not a lot but some)
* Melee Mitigation 2
* Melee defense of 64 (compare that to 29!)
* Ranged defense of 62
Isn't that better than just a +25 to ranged and melee defense from squad leader? You also get meditate but at that rank it won't do much more than slow down bleeding.

All SL bonuses only apply when grouped and those group members remain alive and in range, a luxury which you may not always have. Go for more personal defences from TKA or Master pistoleer, dodge is great.
