Thread: I used to not like Pistoleer...

Hi everyone. Just felt like sharing my little story on how I came to be an "accidental Pistoleer".

Let me start by saying that I've mastered just about every profession out there. I've tried everything. Somewhere along the way, toward the end of my list of professions, I decided to master Pistoleer. This was closely followed by Smuggler and Commando. But whlie I did those two, I decided to keep Pistoleer just to make those two professions easier.

When I first started working on Pistoleer, I was CERTAIN I was going to drop it. Then, after mastering it, I knew 100% that it was not the profession for me. I only kept it until I mastered another profession to take its place.

After finishing Commando, I slowly dropped it as I moved into the TK line for the 2nd time in my career.

By the time I mastered TK, I was still Master Pistoleer, and 0040 Smuggler. I was all ready to drop Pistoleer and move into a fully melee template...

But then I started PVPing a little. Now I'm not gonna say that I'm anything special. But I DO feel that I can hold my own in combat.

It wasn't long after that time that it dawned on me that I really like Pistoleer!! So I've decided to keep it indefinitely. It's a very fun combo with TKM and the Smuggler skills to boot.

Just thought I'd share with you about my decision, and let you know I think this is a very fun profession indeed.

a mix i am thinking about switching to....

BH pistol 0-0-4-0 (pistol tree with eyeshot and torso shot)

Smuggler 0-0-4-0 (feign deathand last ditch)

Master Pistol

then I get a DE10 with +500 damage and party.

i think this template survives a rebalance too...

That sounds like a nice lineup... And the BH 0040 will give you rather insane Pistol speed, to make even a 4.0 second DE10 cap at 1.0 seconds for most of your specials. Very nice indeed.

Ya pistoleer isnt nearly as weak as people think it is.. I handle myself reasonably well with my decent looted geo in duels and an occational pvp.

My friend and I go to the geo caves from time to time and just a few days ago my friend got there first and this guy we know was asking my friend if he wanted to join his group to which my friend responded.. no my friend tieler is coming. Then this guy said ohh what professions he to which my friend replyed master pistoleer and master smuggler. this guy then said ohh well hell be no help here... Is that what people really think about pistoleer cause we are not that bad at all... when it comes to a mob with high resists us pistoleers almost always have a weapon that can be effective. I was with this group of people in the DWB and we were battling a SBD and I think that me the lowly pistoleer was inflicting the highest damage. Most of these melee profs have like two damage types and thats it..

Anyways I have found that pistoleer isnt as bad as people think.. sure if somehting has low kinetic resists then ya a TK will outdamage us anyday but overall us pistoleers can hold our own.

I'm glad you're enjoying pistoleer. However I'd like to point out a few things. Most people that are effective in PVP or in the higher end dungeons aren't just pistoleers. You'll find that just about everyone is M. Pistoleer + BH Pistols or Smuggler 0040 or both. Especially after they lowered the BH requirements. I tried to PVP for a long time before with just M. Pistoleer and it just doesn't work now.

When most people here complain about Pistoleer that's what they're talking about. We'd like Pistoleer to be effective by itself. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with dabbling (I finally broke down and did it myself) but that's the goal we're aiming for. So congrats on your template and I hope you keep enjoying Pistoleer.

I realize that most people have additional templates than just Pistoleer... but let me also point out this: Just about EVERYONE has additional templates beyond their primary combat template. A Master TK typically ALSO has one of several other skills... Fencing for defense... Master Brawler for specials... CM for heals... the list goes on.

While I'm not suggesting that the Pistoleer profession does not need to attention, I do think it's kinda short-sighted to think that the profession isn't any good by itself. Because it is. It DOES need work. It DOES need attention. Those points, I agree on. Is it broken? Some of it, sure. But it IS an effective profession by itself. I used to clear out the Hyperdrive facility on Rori when I was ONLY a Pistoleer (didn't even have my Smuggler tree), and I had no problems.

I agree that everyone dabbles in other professions to make themselves more effective. The way the system is now it's the only way to go. However right now Pistoleer is one of the least effective classes by themselves. Only Pikemen and maybe Carbineers are as bad as Pistoleers. We're a class that's still based on how this game was at launch as opposed to how it is now. Other than an AOE added to fanshot and increased dodge (from a multi-profession defense increase) I can not think of anything else good that has happened to Pistoleer.

I am mainly talking about PVP here. In PVE we do okay. Of course with buffs and armor you can kill just about anything no matter what profession you are. But even without it you can do good if you're careful.

I guess I'm just saying that we still have a lot of problems compared to other professions but we can still have some fun in this game and that we will get our fix in either the Combat Revamp or some other publish.
