why do commando's get a blast pistol?
I mean, they have no pistols skills at all, and yet, there it is right at novice commando.
Since it seems a lot of the higher end content is immune to pretty much all the pistoleers damage types.. and vulnerable to blast... it seems kind of strange to me that a profession that wields flamethrowers, acid rifles, particle cannons, etc, on a daily basis, would even have a pistol at all (with no skills except those from marksman, to use with it).
I'm currently a bh/pistoleer, and my pve content ends with rancors lol. anything larger/stronger and I get forcefed my own hiney. I guess I'm tired of it, as I created another character on a second server and have nothing to do with ranged professions over there - and I an amazing amount more fun over there.. the only problem is.. I feel like I'm playing diablo2, not starwars

Well, it gives them some ability to fight in close when their burning victim charges them! Don't know how effective the unarmed line is, but I'd rather shoot something to death, then beat it to death with my fists!
Plus, look at todays machine gunners, they usually carry a pistol for emergencies... its a helluva a lot easier to swing a pistol around than a rifle at close range.

Yea ill second that motion for Diablo II...But the way I see it is that the Launcher Pistol actually fires rockets...which explode...so it is kinda a heavy weapon...we really should get it as pistoleers, but it seems that the devs dont really like us for now...I personally think that the qualification for Launcher should be moved to Master Marksman to make it a bit easier to obtain for pistoleers/bountyhunters...

Commandos do have Pistol skills... they have the entire Marksman profession's worth of pistol skills. They get BodyShot1, BodyShot2, HealthShot1, RollShot, DiveShot, KickupShot, and OverCharge_Shot1 and 2.
A Novice Commando is basically supposed to be able to use his Launcher Pistol to add Blast Damage to his group (at Pistols IV, a player already has access to Energy, Kinetic, Heat, and Stun damage types), and since a Commando is supposed to be an expert at taking on larger, heavy targets (which are usually vulnerable to Blast Damage), Launcher Pistols are added so that they can have specials (which Rocket Launchers don't get) and supplement a group.
People have suggested moving Launcher Pistols to the Pistoleer professin to give Pistoleers access to EVERY major damage type in the game, but I'm not sure that would fit very well with the Pistoleer's role, which is close range combat versus light-armored foes -- basically, humanoid vs. humanoid. Commandos are the AT-ST/AT-AT/turretkillers, and giving Pistoleers Blast damage would, I think, step on Commando toes too much.... Though if the Devs disagree with me and give us Pistoleers a Blast damage weapon, I wouldn't complain! LOL
Launcher Pistols are generally slower of the pistols (2.4-3.0+, most I've seen are around 2.7), and havea damage of about 70-270. I think those are average Launcher Pistols I've seen on my server. Most that I've seen are of that range, so I'd guess they're fairly average.
HAM costs tend to be a bit heavier I think.

My thought is that if you're a *Master* Pistoleer, every possible pistol should be available to you. It seems rather odd to me to have to use skill points in other professions if you've already mastered combat with a particular weapon-type. *shrug*

I kind of agree with you both.. but then.. why doesn't the commando have a carbine weapon? or whatever.. I dunno.. a sub machine gun seems a whole lot more commando-ish to me than a hand gun
I think I have to agree more with ocke ... as a master pistoleer, it does make a lot of sense that you should be able to use any pistol in the game.. just like any 2h swordsman should be able to use every 2h sword in the game (whatever they're doing in the game in the first place).
is there a problem with giving 2 professions the same cert? the blast pistol is not the weapon people should be going to commando over, lets face it. they should be going there for the flamethrower, rocket launcher and acid rifle. you don't see pikemen having certs for pistols or swords... I know they don't have master marksman as a pre-req, bh and commando are 'lucky' in that regard. I just think that they should be very similar to the bh in regards of weapon abilities (ie: pistols/carbs/llc - but.. with heavier weapons). They practically have the same requirements (except it's unarmed combat vs scouting).
really they should get a line dedicated to pistols if they get a high damage pistol cert at novice, in the very least... but pistoleers should still have access to it(because it's a pistol), or a comparable gun (meaning same gun, less explosion on the graphics.. lol) that causes far less lag

not saying i agree with commando gettina launcher pistol...but heres why i think they get it...
commando is the "heavy weapon" profession, aka demolition expert. the launcher pistol, even though its tiny, is still a hand-cannon meaning a big blasting weapon crammed into a pistol, but its still designed to be a sort of explosive/demolition/destruction themed gun, not a real pistol as its size implies

They do these kind of things to mock us and have fun about our remarks in the forums. They also killed JFK!

If a "Launcher Pistol" isn't a "Pistol", then it needs some renaming.
Perhaps, "Small Gun with Big Boom".

If pistoleers did get cert'd for the launcher it would'nt give pistol xp but Heavy Weapons xp. I suppose this would have to be looked at. I think it should stay at commando myself. We get enough damage types as it is. I think if there was a change in pistoleer I'd like to see a few changes first:
1.Pistoleer speed should be increased, increased speed for smugglers who master the prof
2.More state effects
3.AP2 for the DE10 and maybe the DX2 as well
..but that's just me
