Thread: Damage Mitigation Disaster:
I guess I was tooling around in Vehicles too much to pay attention on TC to this one glaring issue:
DM is on the Grips line.
The Problem with pistoleer seems to be we really have 1 PistolXP usingline that has everythingyou really 'valuable' in our profession. Everybody and their uncle goes up to Pistol Grip IV and will automatically qualify for DM 2.
Wouldn't it have made more sense to place it on one of the other two lines as more of a balancing factor and to give those lines a bit more appeal?

And Mitigation is pretty sweet. Buffed to the nines I survive a ton of battles unscathed.,
i was thinking the exact same thing. mitigation should definately have been in the grips tree. pistol techniques already has a lot of good stuff and is a dabblers delight .
p.s. so is everyone gonna start using the dx-2 as their primary pvp weapon?

The DX2 has a lower range of damage than FWG5s and Republic Blasters. Since Damage Mitigation affects the range of damage, the DX2 suddenly has advantages that it didn't have before. However, you may still be better off using your FWG5. Run the numbers and see which one gives you the best DPS against a foe with DM3.

Good, because everyone hereis right, Mitigation needs to be moved.
I'd actually prefer to see it in poor Marksmanship, since everybody and their grandma is piling into Tech (for Stopping/Fan Shots and state defenses) and Grips (for Dodge). Even Stances is a better fit, since that's where Melee Defense fits (though maybe that's precisely why it DIDN'T go there).
All in all, the Tech line just got its value cemented even further, and the other lines got marginalized (especially Marksmanship - it needs a serious bump in Accuracy While Moving to be worth the investment, and maybe a few other shots/abilities).
damage mitigation penalizes weapons that have a big difference in minumum and maximum damage such as the fwg-5 and republic blaster. here is an example:
republic blaster 67 - 208 speed 2.5= damage per second of 55 dx-2 105 - 160 speed 2.5= damage per second of 53
now assume that you are using these weapons against someone who has ranged mitigation 3
the damage of the rebublic blaster gets reduced to 67 -123 speed 2.5 = damage per second of 38
the damage of the dx-2 gets reduced to 105 - 127 speed 2.5 = 46
