I have read a lot of posts saying that doge is a waste of skill points, and others saying it helps a lot. Some people have said that the defenses don't do anything and are broken, and others who say they get KDed less with the +50 Defense against KD. What works for you guys? What do you see in PvP? Have you ran any tests on it?

Jack-"Because it affords him other interesting opportunities."
Tyler-"Like splicing single frames of porno into family films."
Jack-"No one knows they saw it, but they all did."
Tyler-"A nice big c0ck..."

Read my sticky post entitled "Results of Defense Mod Tests" for details. My "Status Update" post also talks about how defenses stack.

Dodge isn't a waste; it's just a question of whether it's working properly or not.

In addition to what Philosopher listed, here's a test the Fencer Correspondent ran:

Then again, here's a thread where Thunderheart basically admitted that the Devs aren't sure what's going on with defenses:

So the bottom line - Dodge is working, but nobody's sure whether defenses are working properly (or even what they mean - seriously, what IS +50 Defense Against Knockdown? What does that mean in terms of mathematics?).
