Thread: Be careful with fanshot
i was soloing level 75 missions on dantoine today when the strangest thing happened . i reached my mission which was a janta camp with around four guys i had to kill . around 70m away from the camp there was a spawn of random stormtroopers so i thought i would pull the janta guys towards the stormtroopers ( i was overt and imperial so i figured the stormies would help me ) . so i opened fire on the janta and pulled them toward the stormtroopers . at this point i am spamming fanshot at the janta and the stormtroopers are firing at them as well . within a minute the janta were dead . however the sound of gunfire had not ended so i checked my combat log and it said " lk143 shoots at a speederbike " . to my horror i realized the stormtrooper was attacking my speeder and out of the 6 stormtroopers , 3 of them had become red dots on my radar . next thing i see the stormtroopers which had become red dots on my radar are fighting against the remaining "loyal" stormtroopers . anyway i just thought i would relate this story because i suspect that fanshot was the culprit.
p.s. i still think that fanshot is by far our best move.
heres how this bug works, as i understand it (i have witnessed it before). during base raiding, the npcs defending the base will use aoe attacks which will somehow hit THEIR fellow same-faction npcs.
this is how those npcs will sometimes turn yellow and attackable to you of the same faction. (in some twisted way, the npcs are given a tef for a bug that allows their aoe attacks to hit other npcs of the same faction).
so if you are also using an aoe attack when defending alongside your faction npcs, you will end up hitting them. this gives you a tef for the opposite side allowing you to become attackable by your fellow players. so if your fellow PCs are also using aoe attack than they will hit you (or you them if visa versa)
and i applaud you if you can understand all that gibberish
