Thread: Why be a Pistoleer?

The big question I have now is: Why be a Pistoleer?

It seems like Rifleman have everything we do plus some. Well we do have state changes but I agree with Kaern in that I would rather have the whole attack miss me than just resist the state defence and still get hit with the damage. If you want to throw in bleeds, poisons, and flames as states well that doesn't do us any good because we have no resists to those. Dodge, it seems that I may dodge 2 times in a battle. Maybe 3 if it lasts awhile. I've never seen a comparisonas to how skill points in dodge translate to actual dodge percentage.

They totally out damage us and fire at the same speed. According to most Riflemen, it's supposed to be this way. I'm not sure how they get to that but most have either real life examples or description on how energy weapons are supposed to work. I do not believe that either have any relevance to this game. It was designed by the devs so that each class was supposed to have certain strengths and certain weaknesses. I'm not saying that it was designed perfect or anything but I believe that was the general idea. One of the main strengths of the Pistoleer profession is (as stated by the devs soon after launch) that they fire faster than the other ranged professions but for lower damages.

I've been using pistols since launch and now after being more active in PVP than ever before I see how our profession stacks up aganist others. The fact is, it doesn't. We do too little damage targeted at the wrong pool. At the moment our only chance to get through armor is the tangle pistol. Yes I know about Genosian Blasters but if everyone else complained about Krayt FWG5's they are certaintly going to complain about an equivalent pistol that does stun damage. I imagine it will be nerfed or the components weakened once enough of them get out there.

I guess I'm just a little sad at seeing a profession I enjoy be so outclassed by most of the others. Maybe it's just me and that I'm missing something. I'd like to hear from other Pistoleers as to why they are still Pistoleers and haven't moved on to other professions.

couple of reasons

1. it looks DAMN cool (id rather look cool an win ahlf the time, than look like an ass an win all the time)

2. it compliments smuggler well, an well i am one

3. theres rumours (read it somewhere) that in the rebalance max speeds will be capped depending on weapon, ie rifle at 3 seconds, carbine at 2 an pistol at 1. Ie itll be a the fastest ranged proffesion

thats all i cant hink of in my current state of tiredness

Two reasons, 1 I am a liscenced conceal carry in RL, so I feel rather emulated in game. Far better a thing to take out aggressive tendancies with a pistol in theed than in dallas lmao. Secondly, it has the possibility of being the coolest looking combat class next to TK moves. OH, plus im a master smuggler, so why not have master pistoleer to back it up?

'Cause I refuse to grind out another combat class at this point ... and there's no point, by the time I change & grind up to Master in Rifleman or something else, the devs will have "balanced" (translation: completely broken) that profession and I'll look back with longing on Pistoleer.

Better the devil you know. It's a race between my endurance, SOE's management team, and the release of a competently designed & managed MMORPG ... I'm not betting on SOE to win the race and keep me as a customer for the next year, but I'd sure like to be wrong.

It just seems wrong that the only reason most people are pistoleers is because they like how it looks or because it complements BH or Smuggler well. I'm not criticising those that have posted those reasons but shouldn't we be able to say " I like pistoleer because I can do this better than anybody". Quite frankly, it doesn't seem like we are the best at anything. BH and Smugglers have the best pistol specials. Riflemen and Carbines can fire just as fast while doing more damage. I believe that Fencers even dodge more.

Just about everyone on this forum is Pistoleer plus BH or Smuggler. I don't have a problem with that in fact I'll probably be taking up the Dirty Fighting line myself soon. But the fact that you have to have those skills to be effective is ridiculous. Master Pistoleer is supposed to be a Elite combat profession and costs just as much as the other elite combat professions to learn. Yet we seem to be lacking compared to the others.

I know that the combat rebalance is coming out in a month or two but after playing this profession for so long I felt the need to say something. I would still like to here from my fellow Pistoleers on why they are in this profession.
