Thread: Master Pistoleer with some PvP-friendly skills

Im not sure that defence mod stacking works that way (although i may be wrong). The mods from a specific prof. IE dodge from the pistol tree "should" only apply when a pistol is equiped. But like I said I may be wrong

I mastered Pistoleer the other day as my 10th profession (been silent for a while). I like Pistoleer actually... even though most of the special attacks don't work, the ones that I use work fine for me. Savage quenkers hate me now!


So, I figured I'd quit the Jedi grind, looking for other things to do in the game. I wanted to go PvP, but didn't want to go through too much of a hassle to get to where I'd be comfortable. Here were my thoughts... just get up to 4000 Fencer and 0400 Rifleman, in addition to Master Pistoleer. That'll give me +101 Melee Defense and +107 Ranged Defense.Also with +105 Dodge, I think I'd be pretty good at defending myself. I've also got 2000 Medic and 4040 Scout, which fills my skill points up (I think I have to dropat leastHunting IV though).


Guildmates are telling me to master Rifleman, master TKA, etc etc. But I don't feel like being a cookie-cutter PvP template, and I'd rather fire fastfrom range than get up close and personal. I want to stick with Pistols (I do look forward to using Conceal Shot with a T21 though) and I hope this template I've decided will be decent.

Dodge, counterattack and block are the only profession specific defences, so if you have a pistol out, you only get dodge, no counter attack or block, same with carbineer and riflemen just changing from counter attack and block. However, melee and ranged defences do stack no matter what weapon you have out.


As for your suggested template, it's good in theory, in practice, won't be as good. Few things you'll have to take into account, pistoleers only do about 500-700 damage with their powerfullest attack, if the opponent is armored, make that 50-200. And, with most of the better weapons, you won't reach your speed cap.


What will this mean? You'll be shooting slower, and more then other professions to do the same amount of damage, so you'll be shooting longer, whilst your opponent does massive targetted HAM pool damage to you.


What I suggest is, get smuggler rogue tree, (low blow and last ditch = battle winners) or pistol tree from BH. The targetted HAM pools, and better attacks mixed with the pistoleers speed, accuracy and defence, makes for a great combination.


Pistoleer, as it stands, just doesn't do the damamge to make it effective to just stack defences. Get another pistol based profession or pick up a melee profession, like TK or fencer.

As far as stacking goes, Ranged Def, Melee Def, Counterattack, Block, and Dodge all have a hard cap of 125. Skill Tapes will only increase these skills to 125. So if your template has a maxed ranged def, for ex., haveing +25 ranged def skill tapes WILL NOT increase your ranged def to 150.Your skill mods may say 150 but YOU ARE capped at 125. The only way exceed the 125 cap is with food or by being grouped with a squad leader. Counterattack, block, and dodge do not stack with these same skills from other classes. So if you have a 105 dodge from pistoleer, the only way to get any more is to eat dodge food or use +20 in dodge tapes. By far the best Dodge food is Pikatta Pie. You can get over a 40% boost and if made properly a 20 minute duration. I radically change my spec arpound Pistoleer to Master Pistoleer BH 3/0/4/0. The lack of resist vs KD is BAD so I also need Thakatillo to resist KD.


I have said it over and over but I am going to say it again, the biggest problem with Pistoleer outside the fact our specials are broken and largely useless is DPS. We have lower DPS than any other class. Pistol speed even as a Pistolleer BH is irrelevant because classes with massive damage weaps like Rifleman and 2h Sword can swing at 1/second too; their weapons are also medium and heavy AP! There is no way period to defeat that damage output. We need to either duel wield or we need some bloody weapons with AP1 and a few AP2. Even the Rifleman's Jawa Ion is AP1. The Geno needs to be AP1 too.


I don't know why but I am going to stay with Pistoleer until the combat patch. If they dont address and change our DPS and specials, I will finally give it up. For now, I m hunting Jedi.
