Hi,

Can anybody repair their own pistols if they have a weapon repair tool? Or if you need to be somebody specific or certified?

Wondering because I tried it myself on my suped up pistol and I destroyed it waah.

cheers,

the quality of the repair tool influences the likelihood of destroying it. I can make 70% effective repair tools w/o the extra components. with that i have repaired probably close to 15 times, and only destroyed a pistol once. Armor is another story, i have destroyed over 30k worth of armor with 70 % effective repair tools... I think you need the advanced parts to repair armor effectively.

ps i have repaired pistols up to fwg5... never tried a DX2 without the extra repair modules in the repair kit, i will be sweating bullets the first time i try that =]

I don't know what kind of repair kit I got, I bought it off a master artisian, but I have repaired two pistols successfully. With his armor kit I have gone 7 and 0 on repairs as well. I don't have any special skills or anything, I think its just a good kit.

The only things that seem to affect repair rates are the kit's effectiveness and the current damage to the weapon. I saw a correspondent issue that they were considering making weaponsmiths better at it.

My last two FWG5s got dusted from repairs. One on the 2nd repair, and the other on the first. I think the chance to break from repair is WAY too high, personally.

The chance to repair is a joke - honestly I have decided to simple use the weapon down to 0, then junk it and move on.

So far in4 attempts to repair:

FWG5 630/1000 condition - unknown kit quality = destroyed

Scout Blaster 530/1000 condition - 78% kit = destroyed

FWG5 660/1000 - 98% kit = repaired to 900/900

Scout Blaster 440/1000 - 98% kit = destroyed

I've given up - I just buy 3-4 or more pistols of whatever type I am getting and junk them when they get too low. The current repair rules simply suck.

If you check the Weaponsmith forum, there have been a few threads on this topic.

The general consensus appears to be that NOTHING affects the chance of repairing vs destroying a weapon.

Not the optional components in a repair kit, not the quality of the repair kit, and not the condition of the weapon. It appears to be a flat percent chance to destroy, otherwise you repair, and that's it.

Now, I'm sure they put optional components and experimentation and quality and all of that on repair kits for a reason, so I would assume that they eventually plan to make them matter. Probably around when they make the quality of crafting stations and crafting tools matter...
