Thread: Solution for Defense Vs. skills

How about if we got a limit/cap on how many points we got to put into Defense Vs. skills and had to manage and migrate the points as we do for our HAM stats? For example, a master pistoleer has 110 total Defense Vs. points in the master pistoleer tree. What if he did another tree that gave more Defense Vs. points, however he could still never have more than 110 points trained, and had to migrate the points to what defenses he wanted?

They need some combination of lower caps and / or reduced effectiveness and / or soft caps.

Either, they work the way they do now, but can't go over xx (some number less than 100).

or they can go higher, but you don't get the full effect you do now, so instead of 100 being invincible, 100 = 75%, and everything else scales down from there.

or they have a soft cap where getting to 75 will get you up to 75%, but after that they're only 1/4 as effective, so getting all the way up to 100 would only get you to roughly 81%.


The COP out easy way solution that they might take instead of implementing a real solution that works with and continues to encourage the flexibility of a skills based system, would be to make them all different. You'd have Pistol defense vs KD, and carbine defense vs KD, etc..., and whatever weapon you are wielding would determine which would be in effect (the way the weapon speed skills and others work currently).
