Thread: The Joy of Master

I was quite excited when I made master pistoleer. This was back when disarmblast was a low cost aoe knockdown. I thought that I had finally "mastered" the profession by getting a great attack.

That joy is gone.

I am not really sure what is going on over at SOE these days, but it would seem that they want to keep people away from mastery of the professions. For pistoleer, this is simply the fact that disarm2 at master is going to be useless, multitarget is already useless, bs3 is useless. There is really no reason to even try for master, when you may be better served by the BH pistol line and maybe the pistolwhip line.

I feel a bit paralyzed by all the changes, because I dont know whether to give up the useless skills, or to wait until they are "fixed," meanwhile just using fanshot as a "master."

Master of what? that is what I would really like to know.

I feel the same way, man. I just finally mastered Pistoleer this week because I went up the BH pistol line first. Thank goodness I have those skills, because Pistoleer is now worthless. None of its specials will be worth the climb.

My advice to new pistoleers is this: get pistolwhip, and then head up the BH pistol line and get the Smuggler dirty fighting line. The rest of the pistoleer tree isn't worth the bother. Might as well get the superior pistol skills in other professions.

I considered BH for some time awhile back, but I got scared of putting all that time mastering scouting and marksman (along with dropping a lot of skills I already have), only to get nerfed the moment I got torso shot.

I just got Stopping Shot with a lot of anticipation.

Boy, does it suck.

Double-tap and BS2 are still better than Stopping Shot.

It stops gorgs and kreetles really nicely though.

At least suppression fire seems to be working.

Stopping shot sucks? News to me. With a decent FWG5, I've hit for as high as 1700 damage in one shot. my only complaint would be with the pistols low minimum (I'm thinking it's something like 45-185, sliced and not exact), the damage that results is a bit erratic. Sometimes the damage is low, sometimes high, but it certainly averages out higher than double tap.

Stopping shot does suck, I should have taken a screen shot of the Bolle bol I was killing with stopping shot ALONE. Every single HAM pool was down to nothing, I killed it through mind. That's like killing the **edit** thing three times. I could of killed it faster and kept the condition of my weapon higher by just using BS2 which is a marksman skill. Our skills are VERY disapointing. One branch gives us defenses that do not work because it will make us overpowering (Don't ask me how but that's what they said). The second branch gives us better speed and accuracy, problem is pistol speed doesn't need much more increase, and our accuracy is getting nerfed AGAIN so we will not be able to hit the broad side of a barn that's two meter's in front of us. The third branch is full of specials that are useless because NONE of them target the hampool designated by pistoleer's like the rifle/carboneer's have. The last branch sucks just as much since the specials do not work either. The only skill that was worth getting pistoleer is being taken away now and that was in mastery of all the useless crap in the 4 branches which now leave's pistoleer's turning over a new leaf, becoming BH so they can actually be good with a pistol. It's a real shame.

Can anyone name a COMBAT class that is worth mastering in for the sole reason of the abilities/mods that you get at Master?

Master Brawler is the only combat mastery that provides any tangible benefit...

Hey guys, quit pistoleer and be a swordsman like me, then you can spend 60,000 combat xp on a skill box which does absolutely nothing whatsoever! Yay!!

Actually we already have that. Our second combat xp requiring box has nothing but a couple useless minor bumps to defense and speed. AND it costs 80K combat xp.

That's not quite the same as a box that has nothing in it. No specials, no skills, nothing.

Want to hear the best part? They're nerfing Pistol Melee Defense 2 and it doesn't even do anything but damage. The damage on PMD2 is slightly higher then PMD1, but the min damage is the same. So you could hit for 200-400 with PMD1, but with PMD2 you might do 200-600ish. Well PMD1 has a knockdown, but it's expensive now because of the knockodwn costs, costing us about 100-150ish HAM to use it. PMD2 only takes about 20-40ish HAM, which is good for a attack that doesn't do anything else but damage. But for some reason the Devs decided that nerfing Disarmshot 2 wasn't enough, so now they're going to nerf PMD2. Now PMD2 will cost MORE ham to use then PMD1, and it'll still ONLY do damage. On the TC PMD2 costs a lot more ham to use then PMD1, and still doesn't knockdown, and heavens know if it'll ever knockdown.

They just keep on killing the pistoleer class. The only reason to get master pistoleer is for the +20 speed, but why bother wasting all those skill points on broken useless skills? Just get BH for the uber speed / accuracy instead for the styles that are x3 better. Or get smuggler for their pistol skills which are also x3 better then any of ours. Why is it that the pistoleers (masters of the pistols) get the worst pistols compared to every other class with pistol skills? Even marksmen gets better styles.

I've been master pistol, and master tka for 3wks now, and I gotta admit, with both those proffesions mastered, I can still get taken down with 3 dark blue cons. Though not often, its till happens. More a statement, and observation than a complaint, I really dont feel like a master at anything. Otherwise, the game itself I find enjoyable.
