I have been MBH / M Smuggler for quite a while. My story goes like this:

I hear that some Bounty Hunters have been making their fortunes by robbing the corpses of their marks, so I head to Talus and pull a 31k mission. There is a doc in the Dearic starport,and I get a buff while I wait for a return from the Arakyd. I track my mark to Dantooine. He is just north of the Jedi Temple Ruins. I shuttle to the nearest city and speeder from there - only 3km away.

I find my mark. He is a Zabrak named Okoo Tetwani. He is wearing partial composite armor. I store my bike and assess my target. I note that he has gold brackets around his name and is CL 82. This might bea tough fight - good thing I got a buff on the way. I take a swig of my Breath of Heaven and tear off a chunk of Vagnerian Canape.

Time to fight. I start in withtorso shot, and I am immediately knocked down. Damn carbineer NPCs. I cannot knockdown recovery while knocked down. I cannot knockdown recovery while knocked down. I stand up. This guy is hitting me hard, but I'm not scared. I land a lowblow and he goes down. Now I hit him with adv. critical shot, slam a pixie and turn on duelist stance. That seems to help a little. He isnt hitting nearly as hard. The blind didn't stick. I alternate between ranged shot and advanced critical shot a few times.Okoo's health is down by twenty percent. I use a personal stim. I alternate between ranged shot and advanced critical shot a few more times. I cannot ranged shot while incapacitated. I cannot ranged shot while incapacitated. Wow. That was fast - just a freak thing no doubt. He doesn't DB. Just walks a few meters away and stands there watching me.

I stand up, dust myself off, and sit down to recover. I am determined. Eventually I catch my breath and note that my mark doesn't have so much as a scratch on him. I begin to think defensively. I eat some Pikatta Pie and stand up. I get into the duelist stance and then start with concussion shot. I am knocked down. I stand up. Overwhelming shot sticks. Eyeshot still wont. Torso shot - he's bleeding. Lowblow knocks him down and I start to alternate between advancedcritical shot and ranged shot. I smell his fear. Duelist stance expires and I take massive damage ... my health is down more than half. I use a personal stim and re-enter the duelist stance. While I am getting into position, I take as much damage as I just healed. Maybe that was my fear I smelled. I get off a couple more shots ... this isn't looking good at all. I fail to feign death. I fail to feign death. I cannot feign death while incapacitated.Okoo turns his back on me.

I stand up. I sit down. I look through my inventory ... I'm not sure what I'm looking for ... an advantage or an idea perhaps. There has to be a way to kill this guy.Okoo juststands there. He knows that I am weak -- that he could easily kill me now. He knows that when I get up, I will attack him, but he doesn't attack me. He turns away. He is defiant. He speaks silently "You cannot hurt me", he says, "that is why I let you live. You are no threat to me. You are weak."

Okoois right. I am weak, but I am determined. Desperate. I must prevail. I will prevail.

I understand my problem. I simply do not do enough damage. I need more offense. My DL44 XT is not the best on the server, but it is good, made with nice (+113 tissues and it doesn't tire me out too badly), so I don't think the weapon is the problem. How can I do more damage? I look through my inventory again, and this time I find it. The idea.

I type /respec ... the token respec dialog appears. I am having second thoughts as I look at the skill tree. First the hard part ... I drop all of smuggler. My ubese armor comes off leaving me looking as naked as I feel without my familiar profession and skills. I drop all of brawler. That was much easier. Now I learn all of pistoleer. I start to feel exhilaration. There are extra skill points available ... hmm what else should I learn. I pick up novice medic and learn all about ranged healing and medical support. That finishes it. I confirm my choices. This is going to be fun.

I organize my thoughts and my toolbar, looking over the details of my newly acquired skills.

I stand up , walk around my mark and look him square in the eyes. He stares back, but something has changed in his demeanor. He is uncertain. I turn my back on him and slowly walk to a distance of about ten paces. I feel the weight of my DL44 XT in my hand and note that my DPS has gone up to almost 600. Things have changed Okoo Tetwani. Things have changed.

I enter the duelist stance and then turn on my heel unleashing a rain of blaster bolts that surprises even me. I have caught Okoo off guard. He is fighting back even harder now, as does a desperate man. A doomed man. His health is down by 20% and I heal myself using bacta toss followed by bacta shot. I am looking pretty healthy. Now he is down by almost half. I knock him down and fiercely assail him with a series of advanced critical shots and improved body shots in rapid succession. He is a dieing man and he knows it. I heal again, mocking his pathetic lack of medical skills.

Okoo lies dead at my feet. He is a broken man. I kneel and search through his pockets. I find a jar of foraged bugs. Not exactly what I was hoping for. I realize however that I have gained something far greater than any loot drop.

Thank you, Okoo. You have been a good teacher. I will remember you.

Nice post.

I really enjoy pistoleer. It has some problems (I really think the action cost on advanced quickdraw should come down, for example, and stopping shot's cooldown is way out of line considering its duration) but in general pistoleer offers a very nice suite of skills.
