I'd say pistols. Carbs has a nice damage output, but that means you actually have to use a carbine. The assorted CC specials of pistoleer would probably complement it rather nicely.
edit: On the other hand, legshot is a mean special. Hmm...

The choice here is obvious : Master both ![]()
Master Pistoleer/Master Carbs is a beast of a template.

Depends i guess, Your MR, so if you want to switch to Pistols up close for more defense then go that way. If you want to keep away then go Carbs. Both is better though

With Rifles andCarbs some of the specials are redundant with the two snares and I'm not sure if you are able to spam legshot and headshot one after the other. But, with carbs you do get some nice general ranged bonuses and a knockdown. With pistols you have root and some additional defense. In terms of PVE you might do better with the root since KD will not last against creatures. I do miss chargeshot from carbs though, nothing like having a jedi root you then raising your arm and kd-ing them in defiance while running a few steps in the other direction

Depends. Do you want to a long-range crowd control specialist? Slapping roots and debuffs from 65+ meters?
Or do you want good snares and powerful specials?
Pistoleer gives more melee def, which rifleman lacks.
