So, I'm going for a pistol centric build... mixing up smuggler, pistoleer, and bounty pistol. I've already mastered the bounty pistol line for it's great speed bonuses. Recently I was getting a scatter sliced and the smuggler said "Damn, sorry, speed slice". My reply was "Wha? Speed = good". His reply was, "Well, if you have bounty pistol IV speed doesn't matter much". This got me thinking, and in a brief search i've encountered references to there being a speed cap of 1.0 for all weapons.
Is this true? How do I know if my weapon is way over cap, and how can I insure that my weapon strikes the ideal balance between speed and damage?
Thanks.

The speed cap is affected by three things:
- The speed of the weapon
- THe player speed (Pistol Speed you gain in trees)
- The speed of the weapon
- THe player speed (Pistol Speed you gain in trees)
- The special attacks
The speed of the weapon is self explanatory. If you get a 1.0 speed (highest speed slice on a fast weapon) you hit the speed cap using auto attack. However using specials there is something called a delay modifier. This slows down the speed. THerefore to hit the speed cap with a special it is necessaryto go past the "auto attack" speed cap. Last Ditch from Smuggler has the highest delay modifier, so if you hit the speed cap with that you know you've done it.

The speed cap is 100 pistol speed IIRC - but the Pistoleer Veterans will have to clear that up.
Simply aim for damage > speed once you approach this 100 pistol speed cap, and pray to god for a damage slice. And a good one.

Well, without BH pistols line or master marksman most you can hit is 99 - 74 from master pistoleer and a maximum of +25 from skill attachments.
Realistically though you don't need anything more than 94. Right now you can fire every pistol special in the game at once per second using a pistol that is as slow as 4.0 once you have 94 speed. And I don't know about you, but I don't have or even see any 4.0 or slower pistols around

Someday, after speed gets reworked (sometime after JtL), you will probably have a use for more speed. One of the goals is to make it so nobody caps all of the time.
But then, that's a long way off.

Yeah. I think that will be cool. Make the higher damage multiplier specials have enough of a delay where you have to balance your attacks. More strategy would be awesome.
Like I said before we only need like 94 speed to cap everything now with guns as slow as 4.0. Most of us probably don't have any pistols slower than 3.0 though so realistically we cap at 92 which is not too hard.
