I'm 0-2-3-1 Pistoleer with DX2 (approx 100-160 1.8 spd)
I noticed, when shooting normally, I hit for ~200/sec damage. When I do special, (Stopping Shot), I do between 800-1600 (depending on the state of the critter and my roll), but it takes 4-8 seconds to take another shot.
Is this as intended? I struggle to solo Pikets with my pet, and I saw a TKA guy come along and pummel them into the ground - dizzy, followed by 1100-1300 damage PER SECOND using some wierd named attack.
Do I need more speed to get faster at my specials?

Your not supposed to out damage a melee.
But anyways yea, as you get better speed that special will shoot faster, untill then get and use fanshot. (Then = master pistoleer or 70+speed).

ok. Thanks.
I didn't know that about melee either. I figured we were all supposed to be about the same.

Yep. I just made Master Gunfighter last night and my specials are so much faster it's great. I was like you for a long time thinking, "dang these specials take so long to do". I figured that I could do almost as much damage not using specials over the time it took me to kill a Mountain Squill. Now it's no contest.

In the Pistoleer FAQ (and in my State of the Profession Report) you'll find the speed equation used by the game. With those two posts you can figure out the DPS of every special on our tree at various levels of Pistol Speed and Weapon Speed.
I hope that helps you. Let me know if you have any specific questions that I can help with.
