Thread: Will Pistoleer be for me after the CU?

I ask this question because, right now, I only have the skill points to master one elite weapon profession.

I'm a Master Musician/Master Entertainer. Currently I'm 4-2-4-3 (maybe 2-4-4-3, can't remember) in pistoleer, and I'll prolly grind out the rest this weekend.

My question basically is, will just Master Pistoleer be a viable solo profession after the CU? Will the attack control and defense we get be enough to offset our low damage potential in the solo PvE environment? Will the damage and crowd control of Carbineer or Rifles be a better solo prof?

Will the damage and defense of the melee profs be a better option for solo?

Obviously, a Pistoleer will have a place in a group setting for sure, I'm not discounting that at all. I'm just concerned about my ability to play solo with just Pistoleer.

Its still hard to say. But I think in the beining all proffesions will be able to solo NPCs that are even to them. But as they go up , and NPCs get tougher I dont think anyone will be able to solo them (ie: rancor, krayts, nightsisters). I think the idea was to make all proffessions need one another to survive and win high lvl encounters.

You should always be able to solo mobs yellow con and lower... yellow if you're good and know your prof, white and lower for pretty much anyone with a heartbeat. It's currently possible on live right now to solo multiple red cons with no armor or buff as a pistoleer. I expect that to change for everyone after the CU, but the AOE attacks and defense of Pistoleer in it's current incarnation are good enough to solo places like Dant and Yavin pretty well even unbuffed.

Of course, till we see the profession skills tonight for each individual profession, it's going to be hard to say. But remember, the offensive rating is a mid-line estimate. There's always room for exceptionally well made or looted weapons that can bump any profession's damage output up a notch. For instance, I don't think I'd be able to do nearly as much as I can now without my Krayt scatter, using just a base weapon.

If you've noticed, in the CU profesison docs, each profession has been allocated 9 points split between offense, defense, and crowd control. So the basic assumption is that each combat profession will be just as powerful as the next, but in a different way. Pistoleers and Carbineers might find it more to their skills to fight several mobs at a time, whereas riflemen and swordsmen might find it more beneficial to attack single targets.

yeah, all the professions have strengths and weaknesses. I'm just wondering outloud if some professions are better suited for PvE solo play than others.

I guess the best way to describe what I'm saying is this.

Will a given MOB con the same to a Master elite profession regardless of the profession and present around the same level of difficulty for each profession? So if a MOB cons yellow to a Master Pistoleer, will it also con yellow to a Master Rifleman or Carbineer? I understand there will be differences in difficulty for ranged vs melee depending on the MOB's strength. I guess I think that a master ranged should expend the same resources (in terms of damage taken, and special action points used)to take out the same MOB. Obviously, the rifleman will take out the MOB faster due to higher damage, but they'll be taking damage faster than we will.

As long as I have the same "chance" to defeat a MOB as a carbineer or rifleman does, then I will prolly be ok with thePistoleer's role.
