Okay...is there a place where I can fully understand how the DOT usespart works?

For example you might want to bid on a Combat Pistol that has 2456 uses left.

Does that number get deducted when the DOTsticks or each time you fire the pistol?

each time you fire
potency is the liklyhood of the dot sticking on a successful hit.
strength is how much it ticks for and
duration is how long it stays on.

for instance, I have a health poison carbine, 243 str, 99% potency, 70 seconds, 4000 or so uses

it stucks a poison every time it has hit so far.

Also, you will want to stick the dot, then switch to a damage weapon, as typical dot pistols and carbines and rifles have poop for damage.

I have seen some powerhammers and lva's that do good damage + dot, but those are few and far between.

So after each time the DOT sticks, your "use" number gets deducted then? If so, can a DOT stack on an opponent or does it have to wear off before sticking again?

Sorry about this, but I'm just trying to justify/not justify potentially spending millions on a nice(?) DOT pistol if the frequency of the DOT sticking is not greater than I'm thinking.

This auction ends tonight and I'm trying to determine it's value.

FWG5 Pistol

cond: 321/750

Skill Mods:

Dodge 19

Terrain Negotiation 6

Steady Aim Bonus 11

Attack Speed: 3.2

Dmg: Min 16 Max 81

DOT: Poison Mind

Strength: 230

Duration 182s

Potency: 92%

Uses: 9012

1) The condition is a bit low, so one would have to worry about trying to repair it.

2) So if the uses here are 9012, then every time the DOT sticks, that numbergets deducted by one? Can the uses get deducted if the DOT does not stick?

3) So if the current bid is 3.2mil, then that's like a cost of 355 for each time the DOT is used.

unless you think you can burn thru all those charges before EP3 is released I would say pass on it. It's a nice gun, but DOT weapons are gone come CURB launch.

ack, just checked the time stamp on yer post. Hope you didn't spend too much on it.

No, I did not end up bidding on the pistol.

Thanks for the info. I guess I haven't read too much on what will/will not be able to do after the update.

As far as I know, one use is one time for the DOT sticking.

You never need worry about repairing a DOT weapon, nor should you try. Even broken, the DOT will still stick (under the current game anyhow).

Slicing is debatable, unless you need more speed.

You can stick the DOT twice. You can't tell when that happens, but when you are hit, you will read "you have been poisoned!" and then "you have sustained more poison!". Two is the limit, so you can effectively double the strength of the tick.

it is an exploit to use a "busted" weapon with a functioning DOT. My server had a (Legendary) CDEF carbine taken and deleted for just this reason. If someone catches you, you will lose your gun.

Kind of a moot point anyways, since the DOT goes bye-bye in about a month or so.
