Thread: GORAX Hunting 101
Ok, first off I have a few things that need to be said....
I will NOT be giving out wp's or the pattern that gorax spawn. If anyone else does, I will be deleting this post. I do not want to be ignorant, but I prefer helping out hunters, not campers...
Anyone angry with this post, I must say, I dont care. Having more people hunting gorax will only help the economy, good bones will be cheaper for you to buy, and the demand for good bones will also increase. Not to mention smugglers will again be able to slice easily with more people looting...
This guide is not for melee's (sorry
Finally, I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser, so this is all in HTML
THE GORAX
The gorax In-game is actually quite a sight. He stands 2-3x taller than a full wookiee and looks somewhat human. IMO the coolest creature in the game, is also the funnest to fight. A screenshot of my first kill: HERE
STATS
Terrain Negotiation - Yes
---> A non-BH (like myself) can get hurt by this the most. In the area where gorax are most common, there are many hills. Small, yes; insignificant, NO. Any hills I need to climb in order to kite, must be done so while he is rooted. Even a small hill can allow him enough time to catch up to me. BH hybrid's dont have much to worry about, but still knowing your surroundings (especially with this new LOS system) is essential.
Speed - Medium
---> Even having the gorax snared, he runs just barely faster than my character (when holding a rifle) and just barely slower when holding a pistol. This can be a very dangerous when in close quarters with no medic.
Damage - High
---> I would compare his damage to that of a juvi or canyon krayt dragon, but much, much, faster. Even with 5k kinetic recon armor, he can nail me between 300-650 or 250-540 (intimidated) Intimidate is essential for some of the tactics disscussed later, but is also very handy for kiting.
Health - 30 - 41k
---> Health comparable to a krayt, and just as fast (if not faster) regen, makes the gorax very difficult with bad tactics. He has fairly low defenses so you can hit him for a surprising amount, but many people without CM warfare or special methods will have a harder time dealign with his regen. His health DOES NOT reflect loot dropped.
LOCATION
The gorax is home on endor, on the northern part. Although he can be found in some forested areas, he is VERY rare there. Not as common as an ancient Krayt Dragon, the gorax is easily found after a few days of hunting and finding the pattern. Stick to the southern part, of the northern Dessert (this includes side to side). everytime you find one, target him and type "/way" it will create a waypoint to his location and once you discover the pattern this is essential.
Many people have their way of locating him, but many of other person's methods are very inefficient (to me at least). The best way for me is to zoom the radar out to 254m and turn the "con" on. While driving watch this very carefully, ignore all creatures until you see a RED DOT with a YELLOW RING around it. This is a gorax. there are macros you can create to target him, but I find these redundant. after testign them out for a few days I find it much harder, and not once have I had it pick up a gorax that has spawned further than my 254m radar. His spawn is usually ahead of lairs + creature spawns, you will notice a yellow dot and yellow circle ahead of you (as opposed the spawn of lairs BEHIND you), and he will then turn red. Unlike Black Sun, you can be driving the fastest vehicle and still have full spawn potential.
PREPPING
Here, you must pick + choose accordingly to your template. But basics I use are:
Blob Candy -- Action regen
Crispic -- Accuracy
Booster Blue -- Health, Action Regen and Mind Regen
Parawan Nutricake -- Double Burstrun
Vegesparine -- Melee Defense
Dismount 150m from the gorax, when using my tactics, he will be using an area attack and you risk losing your bike. wait for a few secs, to let ALL other spawns spawn. view these and find the largest MOB with highest CL rating, these will be your tanks. Make sure to check your Spice Timers, if you had fought another gorax a while ago you may want to wait till you can use another. A spice downer can lead you to the cloner. Make sure you have your gun pupped and your armor is in good condition.
FIGHTING
Again, this varies greatly per template but I'll try my best.
As a first shot, use root. Make sure you dont have an auto-attack on atm as if he has a foot behind a hill, you will not attack him, and if he moves you will, and you need that root as your number one shot.
**Open up with your most powerful attacks, Body shot, Headshot, Quickdraw, until you see the timer starting to flash. I fight gorax with my rifle (so i can keep the most amoutn of distance between as possible) so I time my follow up shots differently. But when u see the root starting to fade, use warning shot + intimidate him. DO NOT SNARE OR KD HIM YET.**
Kite him into the MOB of creatures you scouted beforehand. you now need to stand still and let him catch you. HIs first or second attack will always be an AoE one, aggroing ALL of the MOB's within a 15m radius (even if it only hits one gurreck, all the others will join in) Now you need to snare or KD him depending which you have. Start kiting him again, and everytime you can, land another root, only this time when it breaks, put the snare on right away. (have your auto-attack back on by now, i suggest ranged shot as your auto-attack for PvE and PvP. itll keep the dmg going while you regen your action)
The MOB's he aggrod before will be negating his regen if they are low lvl, or will be outright helping you take him down if they are lvl 65+ I find that if i can get gurrecks or mereks on him, they can shave 3-4 minutes off, turning a long fight into a joke
If you are a rifleman and pistoleer (like me) you have a very helpful little tool. Starle/disarming shot. If you are very low on health (and dont have medic) and you are waiting for root to be ready again, you can use this tactic. Make sure you have auto-attack turned off and only attack once u see the icon at 1 second left (this will save your action) This is a great time killer if you have just missed your root or snare shot and need some time.
^^NOTE: when using the startle/disarm method, you have a set amount of attacks before its all over. Im unsure on the exact number but after too much of it the gorax will go into a -Retreat- and run away from you, out of combat. If you cannot keep him in combat (very hard to do with all the hills he runs over) he will regen 5x faster than normal, hitting full health in seconds. also, please be aware that if you have a MOB attacking him, startle or disarm will be useless.^^
Area attacks here are a NO-NO, you want any MOB's attacking him, not you. Dont worry about the states he lands on your, healing them is a waste of action, and they are short lived.
Also know that if you do not have some sort of medic in your template, you will have a much harder time. Not once have I ever not been hit while fighting a gorax, and if he can get a combo in on you your health will be very low. This is why I prefer a rifle over pistols, so that I can kite him from a further/safer distance.
Try and find a flat area to kite him within, just run along the perimiter,
WILL ADD MORE AS IT COMES TO MIND
BUT THOSE ARE THE BASICS! enjoy and have fun. Like many Pre-CU krayt hunters say, "Finding the creatures are the most rewarding and fun part of the kill"

Nice guide... but all the hardcore Gorax hunters I know alll have CM Drain.Once you have x/x/x/3 CM... Gorax is all yours.
aye, but not everyone is a PvE set template. I am set for 95% PvP so I thought id help out those that havnt taken x/x/x/3 like me.
Forgive my ignorance... I'm a bit too drunk to read atm.
As far as I know.. CM dabblers or Carbineers or Dabbling Riflepersons can solo these things.

OMG
with the right MOBS around i can finish them in 1-1 and 1/2 mins. I know you have some dead skill points gone on MCM but wow
