Thread: Is Master Marksman worth it?

I have one more line to go to Master Ranger and I'm running a little low on skill points (down to 2). I can drop some medic skills, but its pretty hard to find healing when I'm in the middle of nowhere tracking lantern birds. I was wondering if the bonuses for having master marksmen are worth the skill points? And if I do drop master, is keeping ranged support necessary or can I just stick with rifles and pistols? Thanks.

The Master Marksman box is a horrible and barely useful box. The only real advantage is the small amount of Speed/Accuracy there. However, you should know that the Marksman Correspondent (Dilune)is pushing hard for that skill box to become more useful. If you compare it to the Master Brawler box, well.. there is a big difference. MB is very nice to have (many brawlers declare it as mandatory), MM is kind of "meh."

I'd try to hang onto it for awhile in the hopes that it becomes useful, unless you think you could get back the apprenticeship experience quickly if you changed your mind. It could be months before anything changes, though. Head to the Marksman Board for more information.

it's not even a "meh"

it's a big FAT NNNNN OOOO!!!

Stay away from master marksmen if you can. It's a waste of points.

What about the ranged support line? Should I keep that?

Depends on how much you use the skills. Personally, I think Suppression Fire is the best skill from the Ranged Support tree, and I use it pretty often. The Tumble skills are pointless for Pistol users, since we get Kip-up, Dive-shot, and Roll-shot. Threaten Shot and Warning Shot can be useful, and I used to use them all the time, but lately I've found them just taking up space in my toolbar.

I'd like to free up the Ranged Support tree at some point, but I don't want to give up Suppression Fire

This seems to be a problem with a lot of professions (IMHO)

Mostly, yeah. Scout gets more of the same, but is a prerequisite for Ranger and BH. Artisan isn't required, but comes in very handy for DE. Medic, well, you need in order to get the elite medic professions. Entertainer there is no reason to get it unless you want the Mandoivol (sp?) instrument. Brawler is really the only good one that people go out of their way for, mainly for the Intimidate/Warcry/Berserk 2.

Just recently dropped master marksman to gain adv trapping 3. The only reason I got master marksman was the off chance that I'd need it for opening my FSCS (MInd you, I'm not holo-grinding!), plus to have the badge on my list.

My original plan was to keep only the pistol line and drop the other 3 as I progressed upi through Ranger and Pistoleer.

And I don't use warning shot or supression fire since I got Pistol melee defense 1.

just my 2 cents

Oh yeah, if you drop the 3 lines other than pistol, you'll have enough SP to attain novice medic with pharmacology 1 for stim-b use (if you're planning on mastering ranger and pistoleer alone)

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll just drop carbines for now, then Ranged suport and then rifles as I needmore points.

Supression fire is immensly usefull in both PVP and PVE. It's a valuable skill worth having. I think you'll find once you progess higher in the elite marksmen professions at some point you can probably live with giving up supression fire.

Well, if you got smuggler, and masyer pistoleer, novice commando (from the requirements) IS worth the weapon you get. Mainly cause you can do the most damage vs turrets. Master Marksman is barely worth it, unlike Master Brawler. Maybe some year, far far away it might be worth it.

Ok, I am a Master Ranger/Pistoleer

Ranged support is freaking useless. You can solo pull any animal, regardless of level, without it.

maskscent....Healthshot 1/ HS2...peace.

Move to 70m (make sure your speeder/bike is at 100 or it gets ate on)

As the bleeds kick in, the critter aggros on you... alone 90% of the time. Probably more than 90%, I don't count, I harvest. New patch says bleeds won't stack, so fire 2 hs2s after patch, as the best one counts. One critter aggros, I pdart and glowwire it, then shoot and harvest. If two come, pdart em both and haul butt, bleeding as you go. Not much you can't solo this way.

Carbines, uselss. Rifles are a waste of points IMHO. Ranged support is worse than useless. Traps work much better.

I am a triple master with novice medica and pharm 1 (stim bs rock). With one whole skill point left...wooohooo.

I'm pretty sure you can use any Stim Bs with just Novice Medic...anyway in my opinion the Smuggler Dirty Fighting line is far more useful to a Pistoleer than Ranged Support or Master Marksman. You get a KD, a 10 second delay, one of thestrongest pistol moves, and, probably the most useful for a PvE big game/loot hunter such as myself, Feign Death. I have done a lot of profession switching, and through all of it the only thing I have held on to is Smuggler and its prereqs. I cannot tell you how many times Feign Death has saved my life, and I have grown so used to it I can't imagine playing without it.
