I'm trying to get a better understanding of just how much skill attachments help. What effect does a +10 Pistol Attack Speed attachement really have? Does it change your 2.5 attack speed pistol to a 2.4 attack speed if the +10 is the only speed benefit you have or does it mean something else entirely?

Thanks,

Pistol Speed is a direct percentage improvement on the firing rate of the weapon. If you had +0 Pistol Speed, then your 2.5 speed gun would fire a shot every 2.5 seconds using the default attack (special attacks are another story).

Using just the default attack:

At +10 Pistol Speed your speed is improved by 10%, so your 2.5 speed gun would fireeither every 2.2 or 2.3 seconds (depending on whether the system rounds up or down).

At +20 Pistol Speed your speed is improved by 20%, so your 2.5 speed gun would fire every 2.0 seconds.

At +30 Pistol speed you'd fire every 1.8 seconds.

At +40 Pistol speed you'd fire every 1.5 seconds

At +50 Pistol speed you'd fire every 1.3 seconds

At +74 Pistol Speed (Master Pistoleer speed) your speed is improved by 74%, so your 2.5 speed gun would fire every 1.0 seconds. Now, a 74% reduction would bring the gun down to 0.6 seconds, but there is a 1.0 second speed cap. 1.0 seconds is the fastest your will ever fire a weapon.

Now, the question is, why would you want more speed if you can't fire any faster? Well, special attacks have delay modifiers. Body Shot 2, for example, has a delay modifier of 1.8. Assuming you could actually use the Body Shot 2 attack with a Pistol Speed of +0 (you can't but for the sake of arguement) you would be able to use the attack with your 2.5 speed gun every 4.5 seconds. That's 2.5 * 1.8 = 4.5

Using Body Shot 2 with a delay mod of 1.8, and still using that 2.5 speed gun:

At +10 Pistol speed you'd fire every 4.0 seconds

At +20 Pistol speed you'd fire every 3.6 seconds

At +30 Pistol speed you'd fire every 3.2 seconds

At +40 Pistol speed you'd fire every 2.7 seconds

At +50 Pistol speed you'd fire every 2.3 seconds

At +74 Pistol speed (Master Pistoleer) you'd fire every 1.2 seconds

At +79 Pistol speed (Master Marksman and Master Pistoleer) you'd fire every 1.0 seconds.

Body Shot 2 doesn't exactly have a HUGE delay mod, but Stopping Shot on the other hand does. The delay mod for Stopping Shot is 4.0!! With a 2.5 speed gun, +79 Pistol Speed (Master Marksman and Master Pistoleer), using Stopping Shot you could still only fire every 2.1 seconds! Now, if you picked up Bounty Hunter Pistols 1 (or used that +10 Pistol Speed attachment) you'd have a +89 Pistol Seed mod, and could fire Stopping Shot with that 2.5 speed gun every 1.1 seconds!

Here's a page that explains the nitty gritty details of weapon speeds:

Hope that helps
