Thread: 800+ Damage by Pistol Whip...how?
I dueled a guy today, he hit me for 800+ Damage with Pistol Whip, his next hit for 600+. Now, how the heck did he do that? Best I can do it 400-600+ And I got all of BH Pistol, and in Pistoleer I got 0,0,0,3. He told me he had All of Bounty Pistol, and 0,1,3,3 in Pistoleer. So, did his extra +10 in accuracy really help him do 800+ damage?
Or...is it the gun? I was using a Scout Blaster doing 70-175 at 1.6 speed (Their about). No idea what his gun was. I dont so much want to know so I can get it, as much as just want to understand. Its getting nerfed anyway, I just want to understand how he hit me for 800+. Anyone have any clues reguarding this?
He has the 3rd level of pistol special abilities.. look at your tree. MeleeDefense 2 does more damage than melee 1. Thats how.
Melee Defense 2 doesn't knockdown, so I doubt he was using that skill.
Pistol Whip usually does over 400 when I use an unsliced scout, so it's not too hard to believe that a sliced FWG5 or Scatter can do 800.
It's still kinda crazy, though. Knockdown should be more like WarningShot or Bleeds. It has a very useful special effect, so it shouldn't do crazy damage as well. WarningShot does like 30 damage, bleeds don't do any initial damage at all. So why in the world do knockdowns do damage on par or better than our normal damage specials? It's even more silly for ranged knockdowns. I've dueled my BH friend a number of times, and his knockdown might as well not even be a knockdown, since it does enough damage to incap me immediately.
I have a 41-201 fwg5 and I can whip for over 900. I am a wookie if that has any strength bonuses or something....strength of 700....not really sure how melee damage is calculated.

It has already been stated that secondary and tertiary stats do not affect combat abilities. ie; strength will not make you hit harder, and quickness will not make you dodge/evade/counter more. The fact that you're using a high damage pistol is why you are seeing the bigger numbers for pistol whip.
800+ damage is **edit** normal.
My FWG5 is optimized for speed not damage, so it's max is 144 and i do 600.
Take a Scatter Pistol, experiment for damage, put a damage coupler and i'd say you're lucky to only have taken 800.
My fgw5 48-205 hits for 900+ alot those i rarely use pistol whip when i can use /pointblankarea2 and hit for 1300-1500 dmg a hit with next to no delay penalty and only costs me 36 action to chain it
If you read the rough draft of the FAQ at the top you can see the dmg multipliers of most of our moves. PMD1 is 3.0 and basedamage is 1.5. So any pistol with max damage of 178 or higher can hit for 800+ with pistol whip.
178 x 1.5 x 3 = 801
i wish secondary stats did matter.....then my buffs would be super uber as a doctor =o( if I COULD JUST FIND REACTIVE GAS *whine*
Well, they still do matter, Liver Thief ... they just don't affect combat the way a lot of people have gotten used to in other games ![]()
