Thread: How to balance dual pistols

Most people just want to be able to dual wield pistols because of how cool it looks.

To balance it make it a Master Pistoleer ability, and simply average the stats on both pistols you are using. This way, the developers dont have to do anything about the balance of the weapons. People who want to have the cool look of dual pistols will have to work their way to master pistoleer. The only drawback of using 2 pistols is that you have to have 2 good pistols and that you have to deal with 2 pistols losing durability.

I dont know how hard it would be to add the graphics for dual pistols, but as long as they dont make any more bugs (hahahaha) this would work.

or...

Going beyond the looks though, Pistoleers could have the skill to equip two weapons and each shot could randomly come from one or the other weapon. Because there are two pistols, the speed of the attacks would increase. However, to balance out the speed increase with other classes, aim and damage could suffer penalty modifiers when wielding two weaponss to make it fair. I think this is realistic because you canblast awayquicker, but it would be far more dificult to aim and hithome in critical areaswith two pistols rather than one.

Yup, drop accuracy and make the player deal with 70 to 100% of the stat costs for using the gun. That would compensate for the increased speed and damage dual guns would cause.

Ok, lets say the shots come from one pistol or the other, it would make sense that you would alternate between pistols, which would be the same thing as averaging the 2 weapons stats.

Changing the other stuff just makes it more complicated and adds more room for bugs and imbalances. A Master Pistoleer, like the title says, is someone who has mastered the art of firing a pistol, he should be able to fire 2 pistols at once without losing a ton of his skill.

I think it would work best if you simply alternated firing each pistol, but you wouldn't become twice as fast, since controlling two pistols requires your mind and body to multitask, causing it perform less efficiently. This should also result in a slightly penalty to accuracy.

The primary disadvantage to dual wielding would be that you need to own and maintain two pistols. That should be all, since why have the skill if its drawbacks are equal to its bonuses? It's not going to be available until master level, anyway.

Master riflemen should get increased range. They could shoot from up to 128m away, with accuracy not being as good, of course.

Master carbineers should get some type of rapid fire shot, something that cuases them to lose condition and accuracy, but fire many times faster.

Exactly. You can only equip one item, so treat the pistols as only one item. You equip a single "pair" of pistols. Treated just liek a normal pistol but appears as two on your character.

This is definitely something I feel the game is lacking. I doubt it would be added as a patch, but hopefully in the first expansion. Of course, if they add dual pistols, this opens the door to all kinds of two weapon fighting.

As for how it's handled, previous posts have hit several key points: increase to speed (although not nearly twice as fast),decreased accuracy (especially for accuracy while moving), a higher stat cost for special moves. I'd leave the damage dealt the same and maybe put some restrictions and/or penalties for mismatched pistols.

Haven't we covered this?

Dual ANYTHING is out, not because of balance, but because of the tremendous workload necessary. Essentially they have to recode and re-draw everything on your avatar. Why? Because everyone shoots their gun with the same hand.

To redo it would mean redrawing all the animations for the other hand with all the different guns in them.

To redo it means recoding because while we all shoot with one hand, we all do EVERYTHING else with the other. So now, they have to reteach that hand. And recode it for what to do if there's a gun in that hand and you want that hand to do something else.

In short it's a drawing and coding nightmare.

Is it possible? Yes. Are there shortcuts? To be sure. Is it still a whoooole lot of trouble? Yep. Will it NEVER happen? Not necessarily. But it's not likely to happen ANYTIME soon.

Uhh? Redraw the animations? If you hadn't noticed, this is a 3D game not 2D. They just have to program and arange the model and program joints so that it will move a different way. Trust me, they don't have to redraw anything =p

Or if you want a real world balance solution have people who dual wield unable to hit the broad side of a barn. The guys who want to look cool won't care because they'll still be able to look cool and the rest of us can enjoy the fireworks and splattering blood.

Remember it's better to aim and hit with one than blaze away and miss with two.

Make it a special move that toggles on and off. It could drain HAM at a constant rate (say 50action/sec).

Then you could havea fewoptions from there for the devs to choose from.

-Allow single gun firing of specials while dual wielding and have that action cost replace the cost of the dual wield cost (why should we be penalized for dual wielding if the second gun isn't shooting?).

- Allow one gun to fire specials (iftheplayerchooses to)and the second gun fire a regular shot but charge both HAM costs.

- Allow both guns to fire specials (overpowered imo) at the cost of 2 X special + dual wielding HAM.

- Disallow other specials from being used while dual wielding.

It's true that dual wielding would be a powerfull weapon, but since it's a special in this case, isn'tit justified?

Why not just make it for looks? Has this idea ever been brought up? lol

We do enough damage. I just want it to look cool.
