Thread: Modified Republic Blaster Cert

I just got a modified republic blaster, and to my dismay, it says in the weapon description that I am not certified to use it. I found this odd, because I am a 0/4/4/2 pistoleer, and you need novice pistoleer for the republic blaster cert. What's more, I checked the rest of the description, and it said you need the marksman's pistol III skill to use it. So what is the problem? Am I certified to use it or not?

Speaking for myself....

Some of us are bugged. As a Master Pistoleer I could not use ANY modified Repub.

But I can use the old repubs, and still can without Marksman.

Go figure.

The Modified Republic Blaster (the one with thebuilt in DoT)is supposed to be certed in Pistols III from the Marksman tree.

The cert is bugged? I hate to admit this is the first I've heard of it. Keep in mind there are 4 kinds of Republic Blasters:

Prefix: Before it was fixed at all. It didn't work for anybody. Pistols madein this time period still don't work.

Postfix: Republic Blaster cert given to everybody (even jedi). Pistols made in this time period still work for anybody.

PostPostFix: Republic Blaster cert placed in Novice Pistoleer. Pistols made in this time period (still truetoday) are only usable by Pistoleers.

NewBlaster: Modified Republic Blaster from a limited use schematic, with a built in DoT. Certed at Pistols 3 in the Marksman tree. Recognized as a totally different weapon by the game, even if it shares its name & appearance with the standard Republic Blaster.

There is no way to distinguish between the first 3 varieties without trying them out.

So help me out here. What is the issue, exactly? I haven't experienced it personally.

In the wep description, it says I am not certified. Does this mean that I will have the non-certification penalties or not?

I remember not too long ago there was a patchnote that said they where moving the enhanced republic blaster to Novice Pistoleer to match the regular one. Are you saying that it never went live/worked?

I never noticed that note anywhere. I'll investigate. I did report some time ago that the Modified was a better weapon, so it made no sense that it was certed at a lower level. The response was basically "Wait, really?" and basically I said "Yes, really really. Lookie, screenshots!" I never heard anything after that.

If it did get moved, any BH/Smugglers don't have to hate me - I asked if it was to give you guys a decent Energy pistol, and asked about simply swapping the certs. At the end of the day, the developers make the call.

The "Certified: No" in /examine is bugged. If you have the skill required to wield the pistol, you should be able to use it fine. The certs for the new pistols are wierd like that.

a good way to check is when you equip it- if you really aren't certified you will get a system message
if you don't get that message, it's all kosher

also i've noticed with the very few modified republic blasters i've seen and the republic blasters i already owned they're FAR better- more accuracy, higher damage, faster, slightly higher HAM costs, plus the bleed
when mine runs out of bleeds, i'll still use it over my other republic blasters because it's faster and does more damage- i always wondered why it was certed at marksman pistols III
my only guess is it's so smugglers and bounty hunter can use it without having to dabble in pistoleer- but it's a better pistol, so would any pistoleer want touse the generic republic blaster unless he or she just couldn't find a modified one?
