You take 2.5 times the damage with a rifle is something is beating on you(if it does get to you), and only 1.5 with pistol, pistol works better close combat, no negatives to hit, but rifles get huge negatives to hit.

I use rifle as my first shot, using a laser rifle, if i get a hit, it usually dies in one shot, 2 at the most, if the mob gets close, and i have hardly done any dmg to it, i switch to pistol.

well, when i was using my rifle, i had some two hand skill. so when a creautre got close to me i whacked the crap out of it. but now being a Ch. i just send my pet at it and shot and it never reaches me.

I just cant decided which i like better. it sucks.

I am a big fan of my amazing quickdraw accuracy and wierd "take cover and breakdance" special moves.

Well, it depends on what range your are most comfortable with. Pistol is the easiest to pick up just because if something bum rushes you, you stand a better chance with a pistol than a rifle early on. This is balanced by the heavy damage your rifle can do, but as said, in the early goings rifle is probably tougher.

If you are also a CH it depends. Are you playing PvP? If so, you'll want that rifle because the people you attack are going to try and pick you off from a distance to stop your creature, with a rifle, you can fight back from a safe distance. If you are not in PvP it depends. Are you planning on nailing creatures that your pets are attacking as well? If so, rifle will probably work better so you can stand off at a distance and assist. However, if CH is your primary path and you plan on letting your pet do most of the work, Pistol would probably be a better choice as a "self defense" weapon in case you are rushed.

Pistol, Carbine, Rifle all have their advantages...its finding the one that best fits your play style thats the key, and thats really unique to the individual.

Yep I agree. Personally I think Pistol has the most "style" out of all three. Coolest skills, and is just cool to use AND with the right pistol, (to really fare well, you should get one for power and one for speed) it can be devistating. Now, pistol is easiest to start off with, and rifle to me gets too easy later on. Not as fun I mean, I am not saying it takes no skill to use because rifle does, but picking targets off from far away gets old, even PVP I say get out there and fight like a man! But I am not dissing rifleman because it's an uber gun/proffession. it just DEPENDS on YOUR style and likings.

Obviously if you are an Uber gunslinger, and you manage to inch your way to range of a rifleman... he is toast. Then again it's hard to get into range of an Uber rifle guy... but thats PVP. It's your choice, personally I am a pistol freak. It's just cool and stylish, coolest skills and combos eventually. basically Pistoleer/pistol is the marksman version of a Brawler... but I love it.

I was fighting a Gurk the other night. He has Armor 2 and some defense bonuses. My Scout 65-123 @1.4sec was doing ABSOLUTE-CRAP damage to it. I read the damage window and it says that I am doing 350 damage body shot, but if I hover my mouse over the HAM bars, I see barly 50's, and my pet is proly doing it!

From what I hear any pistol is AR0 and T21 is AR3. That's why rifle matters, and that's why I am thinking about re-rolling.

Someone please take me out of the mizzery and tell me that Scatter or DX2 is at least AR1 weapon.

How useful is Max dodge skill in the pistoleer profession? If you can dodge half of the rifleman's shots, that's a big advantage in combat.

Dodge at +15 so far, is no where near 15% dodge..just as a reference. I originally planned on going fencing to combine dodge..but so far I dodge about 1 in 100 hits..maybe less.

Good post SolrFlare, glad its not another one of those ignorant "Pistolers are uber and need to be nerfed"posts.

You are definately right, each gun has its advantages and disadvantages. Just choose whatever you are most comfortable with.
