Thread: Ranged Support Specialist or save up for Intermediate Pistol Special Abilities?

Well I almost have enough combat XP to get Ranged Support Specialist in the Marksman tree, which aside from a cool title (Guardsman) gives me "General Ranged Aiming +5" along with some other crap and Suppression Shot, which is broken I think.

It this worth spending combat XP on, or should I save up for Intermediate Pistol Special Abilities so I can get pistol whip?

Any advice would be appreciated. If Ranged Support helps me kill better and thus makes the climb easier, it might be worth spending the combat XP now.

I spent my combat xp on getting to the top of the marksman ranged support line. I wish i had saved those points for the pistoleer line. Take that for what its worth. I have been a novice pistoleer for a while, and those 60k combat points are hard to get. And I may end up having to de-train some of the marksman ranged support line anyway to create skill points for my template...

Get pistol whip first - it's very useful even after the nerf. I can solo red things still by chain knockdowns, but I died after about 3 minutes trying to solo a dark adept. That 1 knockdown failure and it turned to me and 1 shot killed me

Isn't there an experience cap for all skills that's set at twice the value of the box your trying to get?If you need 5000 exp for a box then the max experience you can accumulate before reaching the cap is 10000. If you have no ranged support then the cap system will not allow you to save 60000 combat points for later use. I've cappedscouting, engineering and surveyingso I know the system is in place.

The exp cap goes off the highest skill vox you can attain using that exp. Once you hit Novice Pistoleer, you can earn towards Pistol Special Abilities, and your cap goes to 120K combat exp.

Get Pistoleer special abilities first. It's pistol whip will help get the other XP much easier.

CRAP.

I read this now, after having trained Ranged Support Specialist last night.

*smacks forehead*

I had no idea that would impact the Pistol Special xp - I guess when i log in tonight and check Pistol skills, I'll find that the partially complete bar I had there will now be reduced or empty?

*smacks forehead again for good measure*

I wouldnt worry to much if you trained suport specialist first it doesnt give you the melee defense but the extra accuracy is very nice So in the end youll probable want both anyways.

Alas, I had no choice. Along with pistoleer I am doing squad leader so I had to train in Range IV.

Save the exp. Not that it's that big of a deal anyways. 15000 cxp isn't that bag. 1 night of grinding and you should have it.

I sorta like Warning Shot in Ranged Support III. It might not be worth it in the long run, but for hunting it is sorta nice. I am not yet a Pistoleer (took Smuggler first) so there might be early skills in the pistoleer line that replace Warning Shot.
