Pistoleer Archive
Thread: The Pistol and PVP: Strategy and Tactics Discussion
I might as well admit right up front that I'm not a Pistoleer yet. I'm a casual gamer steadily working towards it (and hoping to go BH pistol later down the road).
Anyway, I enjoy the PVP aspect of the game and recently joined the Rebels as an overt member. My first PVP battle occured last night. I was doing reasonably well. I jumped this Imperial and took his health down very quickly. Suddenly, I looked at my HAM bar and noticed that I had a sliver of mind left. The fellow had zoomed right in on it and took me down in two shots. Unfortunately, I couldn't equip my mediocre bone helm before the battle which probably would have allowed me time to squeeze off a few more rounds.
My question is: how could I have won? How does a pistoleer fend off the headshots of a rifleman? (I acutally thought he was using a laser carbine, but my mind dropped so rapidly he must of equipped a rifle. It was dark.)
What tactics have you employed successfully, especially when going up against a rifle user?
Notes on my setup:
I'm using a Scout blaster with 49-97 dam and 3.2 speed. I prefer it to the other pistols I've tried because of the massive bonus I get when I use it. Usually 20-30+ when I'm 19 meters or less away. I like the long range of this gun and speed. I'm able to consistently solo yellow mobs with it.
I'm wearing mediocre chitin leggings, bone BP and bone helm. Any armor recommendations? Would a really well crafted and sliced bone helm help?
Your suggestions would be appreciated. Remember, I'm still only a pistol specialist working my way to the elite profession.

I'm also a Zabrak with the ability to equalize and revitalize.
Orogond,
First, weapon. You need to get it down to 1.5-1.8 speed (1.6 is achievable pre-slice I think..below that I've only seen sliced), with about max damage of 150+. That alone will double your damage output.
What hit were you using? Bodyshot3 I suppose is the mainstay for non-random HAM..does about 30% more damage than Bodyshot2.
Did you rush him? The closer you are to a rifleman, the more the odds are stacked in your favor.
Was your mind 1000? If not, migrate.
If you are zabrak, dont forget 1/hour you can equilibrium.
You can use thrusterhead spice, I bought some for 200 credits a pop and it boosts mind +600.
Use food. Get really good food that boosts mind (hard without chefs..somem use forage all day and end up with some OK food).
Yes, armor. but not just any armor. Make sure the primary weapons you hate to deal with are deflected by your armor type. Tantel seems to be pretty good all around...I'm sure some others have other ideas for low level armor.
Use a weapon power up that boosts speed or damage or both. These can boost ANOTHER 30% for about 100 shots.
You might consider moving..this reduces their to hit by 30, but pistoleers get some nice to hit bonuses.
If he's prone..you're gonna risk 1-2 shots before you close..you might drop a DOT..run...then come back once you regen'd ![]()
That's all I can think of for now...hope that helps. Keep us posted on more PvP...I'm still goofing around in PvE! About 1/2 way there...just a little more to go..
I don't have bodyshot 3 yet. I'm only a specialist in the Marksman tree.
Your suggestions on the weapon upgrade are good. I'm on Wanderhome which was up a week after the other servers. We're a week behind on craftable items, and I have seen a Scout blaster much better than mine on the server yet. I'll keep looking.
About migration:
So I should go full 1000 mind? Which stat should I back off on then...health or action? I still want to do PVE.
I'll keep my eyes out for spice and food that boosts mind. Thanks for the suggestion.
I only noticed too late that my mind was down near a sliver. I couldn't get equilibrium off in time. Ugh.
Also...how do you have your quickbars setup. I'm running out of slots fast and cycling through the various bars is awkward. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
O.

Do you have both rows opened up? If not you can grab the bottom corner & drag it down to open up a second how of hotkeys. These are used by hitting Shift-F#.
If you already have that, then I can't imagine how it's filled.
Not alot you can do... Bleeding is nice. Use 2-3. At least if you die, you'll incap them later. (Yeah, i know it's griefing, but it works if you really just wanna get them) Like someone above said, get a better gun. I haven't seen any scouts at 1.6 spd, but I've seen ones at 1.9 which is already good.
If you're raiding in a faction battle, stick to a scout for a while. Chances are that you're spamming BS2, so keep using the scout. it has low HAM costs. later, when you get higher accuract mods, get a better gun and use the occasional special. faction battles last a long time. you don't want to wear yourself out.
if you get the chance, use a burstrun, it'll help you get in close. Pistol's ideal range is alot shorter than a carb or a rifle, it'll also help you catch them off guard.
bah, I'm always forgeting things. as for armor, make sure you know what you're wearing. encumbrance on your mind is a big problem, so watch out for that.
To agree withmy fellows your #1 goal is get a better pistol your speed is killing you. The faster you get a gun down to 2 ro below the better.
#2 your still in marksmen well use Body Shot 2 and Health Shot 1, use health shot 1 first so it does constant damage and then bdoy shot 2
#3 Buy a good helmet I have a complete set of composite armor but I only use that when I'm either in a very serious duel or in on a massive PvP battlefield but I wear the Helmet anytime I'm fighting other players
#4 Get in real close a pistol wielding person gets bonuses for getting in real close
#5 I f you cannot get in real clos then run around again pistols wielders can shoot more and hit more will runnig around versus other range weapons.
