Thread: Padded or Ubese Armor? I need your opinions

I'm looking for a set of armor which would help me in my effort towards and with these two professions, I'm looking at Ubese because a set of 76% kinetic/20% base would be very helpful for Fencing, the only problem is, that ranged attacks seem to slice right through it and tear me apart. So then I look at padded, besides looking really nice, it offers decent all around protections, it just isn't as good as the Ubese is with kinetic.
I'm not sure what protections I could get on padded, but probably somewhere around mid thirties and forties, Because I roleplay, I refuse to use composite because that is an armor worn by soldiers/troopers and my character is neither.
since you pve, the only damage types you really need to worry about are kinetic and energy
if that's what you want, i would get voritor segment enhanced bone armor /shrug
ubese should do nicely.... if you want some extra energy defense, get an armorsmith to make you some portable shield generators experimented up fully in energy defense
padded has the same vulnerabilities save one (heat or cold, can't remember) as ubese
also the HAM costs are insanely high (comparable with composite)
i would stick with ubese and get some PSG's
I would say if you are fighting PvE mobs, ubese is probably better suited. If you are fighting PvE NPCs that use ranged weapons, padded may offer better protection with an increased HAM cost.
You might also want to mix the two a bit and see if you can come up with a combo that doesn't look thrown together but still offers good protection. You might want to even go so far as to get a composite helm to help reduce mind hits and use a combo of padded and ubese for the rest.
For PvE, it seemed my ubese jacket lost condition much faster than any other piece. My helms seem to last a while and the gloves, bracers, and boots are hardly touched. You could invest more HAM and credits in the areas that you feel are getting hit the hardest and use lighter weight and lighter protection on areas hit the least.
