Is it worth it, if you have to give up the Pistol Grips column and thus give up Dodge?
Also, is Pistol Melee Defense 2 still broken?

Pistol melee defense 2 is still broken.

I've been going up the pistoleer tree for about a week now (casual gamer). I've noticed that my melee defence will knock things down for about enough time to get one additonal shot off the first time i use it. After that it takes at least 30 seconds for it to work again. I even knocked someone down in a duel. So it can work. That's just my experiance.
As for Double Tap I agree it seems pretty useless. Less damage than HealthShot2 and no bleed.

Melee defense 1 will sometimes kd your opponent, melee defense 2=BROKEN it just makes you think you're going to do something and waste the precious time between using Healthshot2/Stoppingshot and Fanshot.
Double Tap is like a weaker version of Stopping Shot but the time delay isn't as long so it can be useful when you need to get something down quickly and you're not at speed cap.
As much as things don't work I came back to Pistoleer after doing Fencer, Carbineerand Pikeman so its a lot of fun, nothing like charging a base of rebel NPCsand kiling them all just as you get into melee range, hehe did that last night so much fun I hadmissed that.
In short, i'd keep the dodge mods since you can get clothes that add to melee defense and get some skill tapes for pistol speed which are "common."

pistoleer moves are garbage i use the smuggler moves and bh moves there the good ones smuggler low blow which knocks guys down is awesome.

I don't think our Dodge is so great until you hit Master Pistoleer, so yeah having a 10m knockdown would be worth it. You may as well take the whole line even though PMD2 is broken so you can get the Pistol Speed (unless you are a Bounty Hunter already and have enough speed).
Low Blow is better of course because it is ranged, but that requires Smuggler.

Since someone else asked this question, I'll just say that according to the JtL game guide put out by PRIMA, it states that pistol melee defense 1 has a knockdown, but 2 does not. It also says that disarming shot 2 has a knockdown so take that for what it's worth.

Pistol is cool if you use it right.. you need BH 0040 for torso shot(on fire), but what you really need is a set of good bleed resistant cloths and smugler 0040. Last Ditch something after you bleed it and set it on fire. When your ham gets low then feign Death and lay on ground till you heal (watch creature burn and bleed). Stand, fire,bleed, and Last ditch the creature again till your ham gets low again.. Feign Death... repeat :-) If the creature bleeds you.. pay the 12k for another set of buffs and repeat..LOL
