I remember those days well, at launch we were called overpowered by almost every single profession in the game including rifleman. It's always the newer folks who never experienced our former glory days that think our profession is doing fine and that we aren't a pvp profession bla bla bla.....<add nauseum>.
Well the Devs stated back in beta that all ranged professions would have equivalent dps and well quite frankly we don't. of course back then all ham pools were also all healable with stims. Right before launch mind stims were removed from the game because they discovered a medic/doctor could heal in an infinite loop. So thanks to that judgemant call we got the uber fotm professions, BH, CM, TK, Rifleman, Pikeman......... All hit the mind pool and all have been fotm professions that have dominted pvp since release. Of course each one of these have had their turn as thigns have changed in the game each one has become less potent as people got smarter. Now pvp is even worse, all Jedi and Melee stackers. Ranged overall is useless in pvp now including pistoleer, we've just been there longer than most of the other ranged profession when it comes to being near-useless in pvp.

Sure Pistoleer has some problems, but they arent any greater than a plethora of other professions. Team up Pistoleer with BH or Smuggler/TKA and your pretty dangerous.

I Mastered Pistoleer twice and going for the third time..
Pistoleer is great, just deal with the speed cap for now.
Unless the devs fix that with the combat rebalance, highly doudt it..
