Okay, so I've returned to SWG to give the CU a try, and I'm wondering: How do Pistoleers 'stack up' in PvE and PvP now that everyone (with the exception of Jedi) are not playing with "god mode" on?
Years ago, thePistoleer tree was hopelessly outmatched in PvP due to the high popularity of composite armor and the fact that half of the tree's special maneuvers were simply broken. In PvE, you could hold your own (provided you had doctor buffs and armor), but damage output was lackluster at best.
With the CU, I understand that all classes have been taken down a bit in power and survivability, and grouping is more "required"to engagewithPvE content. (This is a good thing, in my opinion.) So, how well does the Pistoleer fit into comabat situations these days? I am currently a TKA/Doc (the build I had before leaving the game almost a year ago), and I'm thinking of respeccing back to a Pistoleer build for something different.

Welcome back.
Have a read of this guide to Pistoleer.
Pistoleer is very viable in combat for both PvE and PvE.

Pistoleer still have the lowest damage output of the three ranged profession but not by as much as before. And with the removal of armor piercing we are much more effective vs high-end content. We also get kd, root, delay, area attack which gives us a some tactics possibility. I think pistoleer is a very good profession to stack with other ranged professions.

Pistoleers are now ultra-fast medium damage dealers with a relative host of status attacks, espescially when combined with BH or Smuggler. Our speed and adaptability in combat are our strong points, and I feel confident both solo and grouped.
Solo I can focus on fast damage dealing, as our REAL DPS (factoring special moves and speed caps) combined with our low SAC is devastating one-on-one against high-end MOBs, and in a group you can focus on status attacks to keep the enemy pinned, on its back, and worse.
You know those Old West gunslinger types who could shoot the weapon out of their opponent's hand, the hat off their head, and put two rounds in their chest before the other person drew their gun? That's us now.

I have a TKM/Doc and also ran with a Pistoleer/Doc. The TKA can soak up more damage, but the Pistoleer kills the mobs much faster and has that useful stopping shot for when you need to bug out fast ![]()
The Doc buffs are good post-CU for people who actually know how to fight and being able to self-buff (especially putting the speed back on every 16 mins) is very handy.
My main is MP/MBH/CM4000 and I have a lot of fun with him - I only took the CM in that template to get the 3 heals at a decent level. Cuts downtime to effectively zero and useful if you get an add. ![]()
