Thread: Is pistoleer strong/quick enough without stacking BH or smuggler???

Please dont yell at me but your talking to a converted TKA/Swordsman. Im used to dropping peeps very fast but I would like to play a pistoleer. So far the damage output isn't very impressive but I do like the specials and the LOOK. The temp I was thinking about was Master pistoleer/Master Combat medic/0/0/0/4 Doctor (for the buffs).

Great idea for a template, but personally, you're buffs from 0-0-0-4 doc won't really be anything worth helping you. If you really feel like picking up a line in doc, go for the wound heal tree, since it seems so rare these days to find a doc to heal them. Otherwise, dump into smuggler or something that gives general ranged speed and accuracy bonuses.


I like the Smuggler/Pistoleer combo, which was the first combo I ever had, before I went into experimenting with other things. The status effects between Pistoleer/CM is very nasty, plus you get all the pistoleer speed and accuracy enhancements for the master CM pistol, which it's name eludes me atm. Early warning though, I've noticed, at least for myself that once a master CM agros a target or heals a tanker, for some reason the target willoften come after the CM, reguardless to whether it's still being tanked or not.


either way, welcome to the wonderful world of pistoleer. Let's just hope the devs unbug the broke and not bug the fixed.

I'm Master Pistols/Master Ranger and I think that is enough. Would I have more speed/accuracy if I picked up Smuggler or BH (which I dropped for Ranger) yeah, but not THAT much more to warrant it, especially considering how fast I run out of action

The buff line is useful for two things... the Combat Speed buff and the action increase and regen buff. The combat speed buff adds A LOT of speed, it makes my Master Pistoleer recover from specials a great deal faster and the action regen buffs stacked with chef and spice regen buffs lets you use a lot of specials.


Because the Combat Speed buff is only about 15 minutes you either have to have this skill or have a Doc following you about to reapply it.


I find the buffline very useful, you also get health and mindincrease and regen buffs.


The wound heal line isn't worth taking it just to heal peoples wounds as you can do that with Novice Doctor, a looping heal wound macro and a bit of time.


I've got 1/0/0/4 Doc for the buffs, bacta infusion, bacta jab and wound heal, and then 4/4/0/3 CM for more heals, DoT's and Electrolyte Drain.


With a damage capped pistol you can buff your speed to be able to fire quickdraw and body shot with these delays. (damage numbers are approximates for information)

pistol by itself lacks imo, probably the poorest ranged profession by itself, but add


getting BH is aBIG improvement to defense, movesand +spd and +accuracy and even the little +terrain negotiation and mask scent are nice for hunting...


...IMO smuggler's not worth it for just combat skills.... so unless you're gonna actually play the role of one...faction buying/selling, slicing,spices, etc...you get only a few valuable combat moves(feign death and last ditch), & too little skill mods and you'll have to 'waste' 29 points in that 1brawler tree to get to novice smuggler

My current template is Master Pistoleer/Master BH/Master Marksman and I am pretty good on damage and speed. A base 315 DPS Scatter which my modified DPS is 560, so that's not too bad. You also get the high damage shots with Master BH and the confusion shot (dizzy/stun) and a KD shot. Bodyshot is also pretty good if you can get it to work and the all famous critical shot, which works about 3 out of 10 times for me. The root shot with Master Pistoleer root shot is pretty decent for them melee MOB's like the Nightsisters. 2 of us went to take on NS's at the stronghold and had no problem since we were both Master Pistoleer and he had another root shot as Master Smuggler so we kept them fairly well rooted the whole time there. Seriously though... Concussion shot is completely broken. It is supposed to be a 40 second mezz that breaks on damage, but it is working as a 40 second root that does not break on damage. Meaning it's supposed to be the ranged version of CM's paralyze, but it's a longer version of Stopping Shot.


Aside from that, Smuggler moves aren't useful? Panic and Low Blow debuff attack speed (this is lame, Panic should be the speed debuff, and low blow should still be a ranged knockdown). Restraining shot is a snare. These are helpful moves. Even reckless is useful, it does more damage than body shot, at the expense of my defense, but if I'm attacking a rooted or snared melee target, my lowered defense isn't going to matter (not to mention I've got Improved CoB from TKA, which raises defense by 500, so -80 ain't bad combined with that.) I didn't get Smuggler for the specials though, I got it for the upcoming Smuggler revamp to do something Star Warsy.


Back to the original point of the thread. Pistols + Medical skills are very viable. Badger kicks butt with that template.

I agree completely about the Doc buffs and that is a very interesting build you went for. Nice!


The Doc speed buff is superb - I tried it with Pistoleer during respec and it rocked. I went back to Doc/TKM on that particular character though since he's mainly a meatshield when I go hunting with friends


I'm tempted to drop BH and give that one a go sometime since my Pistols are always the part of that character that I hang an to. My 'main' build is MP/MBH/4000CM just for the 3 heals. Having the heals and buffs and my pistols and poisons.... sounds yummy!

By itself, pistleer is pretty viable. But just like any other profession, you're not going to get all the defenses or bonuses you want from just one profession. There are a lot of different ways to go about that. You should play around and figure out the role you like to play.

Pistoleer can solo fairly well, but perhaps not as effectively as other professions. We are still fairly low damage, but our specials make up for it. Stopping Shot is incredibly useful, obviously. Intimidate Shot is good, too.

Can a pure pistoleer compete with a person that has 2 combat masteries? Yes, given good tactics and good money for skill tapes. The tapes will make up somewhat for the lack of bonuses from the second profession, but the tactics will determine whether you win or lose. But in a group, you won't be at much of a disadvantage.

Basically, I'm Master Squad Leader, Master Pistoleer, Master Marksman, Scout 4-1-1-4 and at CL 80, I only have any sort of trouble with those around my level 78-80+. Other than that, I have no problems at all. Now here's the catch. I'm using an Intimdator and I solo without a pet. *shrugs*
