Thread: Getting Novice Pistoleer post-CU (add your strategies too)

I'm making a new BH/Pistoleer and obviously decided to do the Pistoleer part first to got some decent weapon levels for the Carbs and Rifles (*shudders*) later.

I started a newbie, kitted him out with his CDEF and found he could kill the odd yellow stuff up until he hit L7ish.

I then qualified for Marksman Pistols 4 and trained it. I shot straight up to L11

At L11 I went shopping and got the best Scout Blaster I could find. 55dps as I recall, nice top end damage, 2.2 speed.

Now I pulled L11 missions and went out to try it.

I suck

A L11 nuna killed me. A L11 cupa killed me. A L11 scyk killed me... Admittedly after being incapped killing 2 of their buddies but that's the point.

I can't kill anything at L11 without getting incapped.

I don't like to blame my tools but for soloing I have to - I am a damned good soloer! I solo'd a toon from L30 to L80 post-CU and did it constantly fighting mobs 2 levels above me using just Pixie and the occasional Doc buff and my pistols - oh... and armour (or armor if you use the collonial spelling )

With a brandy and a Pixie I still get incapped at L11. My damage output with the SB is pitiful and my 0010Medic heal is pathetic. I doubt a StimA/B would help me out enough either as the mobs are only just below half health when I take a dirt nap.

I can't have even Mabari armour (beloved of pre-CU n00bs everywhere...) until I hit that Novice Pistoleer box. Ouchie...

I can take L8 Punks and Thugs and Rawls outside the Naboo cities though, which doesn't shock me since I expected to be L8 once I got that 4th box.

So - I now have to get 22K of combat XP before I have that 4th box in the other line in Marksman. I have about 8K of it so far. I'm 1413Marksman and struggling to solo.

So - has anyone else found a better way to do this solo or is this the 'forced to group' stage that people have pointed out before?

Please pitch in with any suggestions - I will try them (as long as they're positive and about how to level to Pistoleer, ok guys? )

I had a chat with a friend and he said L11 seemed high for 1413 Marksman so I checked my other basic combat boxes.

0010 Medic I knew about, but I forgot a few brawler boxes I picked up while I was messing about with all the free weapons you get as a newbie *coughs*

I dropped those and went down to L9

This means

1) I get better XP for the L8 critters now... *cheers*

2) I can't use the scout blaster *jeers*

Bit of a mixed blessing really then, I suspect the one box of medic may be adding +1 to my level although that's unlikely. I don't want to drop that box though since I tend to use the heals after a fight now, rather than during and the XP takes ages to pick up...

I may drop to 0403 Marksman to see if the other two boxes make a difference (again - I played with the weapons - bad boy)

Mygeneral advice, post-CUis to only take the boxes you need until you get to the Novice box.

If you want to grind solo then you might want to look at getting a pet or combat droid to tank for you. Have a look on the bazaar for a bargain one.

It's a thought for this stage. Wonder how big an XP hit you take with pet/droid tanking these days?

I've never used a pet to tank - even when I was a BE and had a 6K HAM CL10 dewback It always felt like I'd be 'cheating' to use him like that.

I enjoy a challenge *chuckles*

You get full xp for doing 10% of the damage iirc.

I know that the Scout line doesn't add to your level, no problems there.

If you took a lot of medic too early though, you might end up as messed up as my new toon was? *grins*

Novice Medic is a great help for downtime, but not much use in a fight unless you can somehow get enough breathing space for the healing cooldown period.

It's certainly a whole new game since they added this level stuff.
