Thread: SL or CM?

Hey there fellow Pistoleers... I need some advice. Since CU i have been MP/MBH/SL 0404 and I like thos combo alot for PvE cause it has great defense i think it breaks down like this

(With pistol equipped)
Melee Defense 270

Ranged Defense 290

Speed 120

Accuracy 230


Recently though a friend threw at me the idea of going for MP/MBH/ and rest into CM. now i thought about this and wasnt sure exactly what tree i should go for but 4000 seems best and with that template i have the following.

Melee Defense 235
Ranged Defense 250

Speed 100

Accuracy 205


Now im not 100% on the stats as i just went thru the profs and added things up but i am horrible at math so if they are wrong someone please correct me...

Well my main question to all you guys is this, Is the drop in defense, speed, and accuracy worth the ability to heal myself with CM?


and Lastly if anyone else has a better combo to go with MP/MBH please explain it here. thanks in advance for all the advice and replies in advance thanks!!!

The best thing in CM is the Electrolyte Drain snare from x/x/x/1 CM, the improved version at x/x/x/3 always sticks and slows mobs to a crawl for well over a minute, allowing you to kite forever using stopping shot to root them while you run to 10m to reapply drain.


I was soloing a CL94 Ancient Krayt yesterday using this, got it to 1/4 health when a Grand spawned on me mid fight and ate me.


You dont worry about defences too much when you cant get hit.


But, healing vs defence both have their advantages, but with too little defence you can find yourself stuck in a healing loop unable to fight back as you are too busy keeping yourself alive to attack.

I finished my SL template yesterday and I think it rocks. whenIhunt jedi, pull out a bomb droid and group, I get the defence bonus. (Don't I ?) And I can use Volly fire.


The gain in accuracy and speed is worth it. Forget using time to heal if you are Zabrak. Zabrak can use Vitalize which is more usefull after CU. I beleve eqvilibrium is broken. It ain't working for me at all.



MBH/MP/SL0404 is an ok combination. As a matter of fact I thought I was one of few with this.

I played a MP/MBH/4000CM and had no trouble soloing L82 missions with it. It also cuts your downtime to practically zero between mobs.


I'm considering trying an SL build on a new server but that will take a while...

you will have to try them both. Hard to say so early after the CU.

i love cm with 0004 I can still heal for a pretty high amount

I am master bh, master pistoleer, and SL 0404 and i think you should stick to that. CM is fun but with the def and acc/speed bonuses in SL are to much to pass up. When grouped you get more bonuses and volley fire is nice Remember its your template and you need to pick the one that is going to be the most fun for you. In my opinion though SL all the way. definitely CM if you're going to do a lot of PvE against melee mobs. Electrolyte drain = kiting = no need for defense against a melee mob.


The only issue you might haveis the saber throw range is just below the pistol range. You'll have to really kite well to be able to still shoot and not get hit with the saber. The smart Jedi in that case would actually start to move away from you. That way he's out of your range. As soon as you move to start chasing, he goes at you, and you're both in range.

Electrolyte drain > Melee. Between it and stopping shot soloing melee NPC's (you'll need some space) is surprisingly easy as a pistoleer. I mess with Nightsisters I couldn't even think about touching alone using MP/MBH + 0004 CM. I definitely recommend it.
