Thread: Dmg formula?

Does anyone know how damage is calculated?

Last night I noticed that over about 200 shots I had a min of 41 dmg and a max of 152 dmg. All shots were on either Kima or Feeble Kima. My Scout blaster is rated for 50-102 damage. These numbers came from the combat window so they are the pre-resist value (the numbers floating up off the mobs head were 20% less which are post resist). They were regular shots with no specials.

Due to armor ratings and such I might expect my shots to be shifted up or down, but not both ways. Do pistols do less damage to the head than to the body? I know the HAM bars drop in order of H, A, M for pistol shots, but I always assumedthe pistolwas just more likely to hit the body than the head, not that it was doing less dmg. If it's doing less damage to different pools, what are the ratios?

Hmm, no compulsive log parsers, analytical minds, novice game mechanics or obsessive number crunchers lurking in the pistoleer forum?

I have no idea how you came to have a shot at 41 with that gun. Are you absolutely positive on that 41?

I experimented quite a lot on all my weapons in game and it seems like auto attacks have a x1.5 multiplier on the base stats of the weapon. So if your gun is 50-102 you should observe damage values in the combat window at 75-153. I don't know why this x1.5 multiplier is in effect on virtually all the weapons (I tested many) but I made a few posts about it. Also AR rating on weapons seem to be broken... I'll direct you to one of my post on the rifleman forum if you want: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=rifleman&message.id=1634.

I'm pretty sure I saw a 41, but I do admit it was out of the regular range of other numbers I was seeing. Perhaps the final killingshot is truncated to the number of hps the mob had left? EQ used to do this on the hit that blew through a Rune (dmg absorber), so you would see a hit for 5 when your minimum is 50. What really happened was you did 50 or more, butat least 45was eaten by the Rune and the game would only show you the 5 remainder as your damage.

I read your thread on AR and find that very interesting that it's broken. I will be checking on this myself next time I can.

Smuggler,

I noticed this too, clearly hitting both above and below.

Alright I figured this out...

Intimidated drops your damage significantly, and it does not log to any chat window thatI can find. So logs and parses will always be unreliable if you fight mobs that can intimidate. Most other states are logged to your combat chat window, so I bugged this. The description of intimidated only says that it makes you miss more, but apparently that is misleading, or only part of the whole effect.

So weapon dmg is consitantlyX* min -X *max, where X is 1.5 usually, but drops to below 1 when intimidated. I saw hits for less than my gun's listed minimum damage.

I am not sure what other states might cause a drop in damage, but dizzy, stun and poison do not seem to affect dmg.
