Greetings fellow gunslingers.
I come before you confused and slightly peeved.
Today I aqquired the stopping shot special.. Now according to the specials status thread it works, though not to perfection, and yet, from my observations after a day of use, it doesn't work at all...
According to my combat log when I used it I was hitting for around 1000 damage per shot, however, when I attempted to use it on2k ham Dagger Henchmen, after two shots hitting for 1003 and 1008 respectively, I had taken a wopping *gasp* 300 Health and 25 action points from him??
Pardon me while I curse obscenely but what this heck is up with this special?
Is the specials status thread in correct or what? I tried this on multiple enemies and while the combat log said my damage was 800 or more, I generally only took 200-300 actual points off their HAM bars.
Can anyone explain to me what the deal is with stopping shot?

It could have been a combination of things. What was the armor piercing on your weapon and what was the armor rating on the henchman? I suspect you may have been using an AP0 weapon against an AP1 or AP2NPC.
For each level of armor rating above armor piercing, the damage will be reduced by 50%. For each level of armor piercing above armor rating, the damage will be multiplied by 25%. If we assume the NPC was AP2 and you were using someting like an FWG5, Geo Blaster, DL44, DL44 metal, etc.
1000 * 0.5 * 0.5 = 250 pts. That's AP0 vs. AR2.

It seems to have been working for me. I was chewing through Tusken Warlords in under 10 seconds using stopping-shot with my DE-10 yesterday.

Thanks for the info guys, I took into account special defenses but never even considered armor ratings, I'll bet that was the problem.
Appreciate the help.

Cirroco_Una, the damage in the combat log is ...misleading. See, that is 'pure' damage. Before ANY armor modifiers have been applied. So you can get astronomical figures, like 12,000 damage with a flamethrower.
Anyway, the point being, sure you 'did' 1000 damage. But then if you're using say a scout blaster and they have 50% energy resist and Light armor your damage gets cut to 500 for just the light armor, and then down to 250 for the 50% energy resist. Thus, you should never trust your combat log. It is the rose-colored glasses of this game. The numbers that float above the targets head are the 'real' applied damage. (Remember though, that only 80% of that actually hits the designated ham bar, 20% is divided betweenthe other two)
