Thread: Dumb Question....Who can use the Scatter Pistol?

I was checking out my skill tree as a Marksman last night, and I'm working on Pistol IV, hoping to get to Pistoleer.

I came accross a venodr last night with a pretty sweet Scatter Gun for teh price, so I bought it, and upon equipping it received the following message: "You are not skilled enough...blah...blah...Damage will be greatly reduced"

So I checked out the Pistoleer tree's and never came across Scatter Customization. Who can use it? If I can't, what's a nice pistol for lvl III going on IV?

Thanks in advance,

It's certed for novice Bounty Hunter.

The best pistols you can hope for are your average DX2and modified republic blaster, with the two higher end pistols being a Geo sonic blaster pistol (due to its stun damage) and the DE-10 due to it's relatively high damage

Thanks for the info.

I just did a search on this forum on scatter 'pistol' and learned it has nothing to do with being a pistoleer...Figures, SOE.

So I guess I need to be a broken BH to use a pistol, and not actually a pistoleer.

actually BH really isnt that broken, and all you really need is novice BH, and it helps to get BH pistols as well for added accuracy and speed

Heh heh, quite a few pistoleers over the last year or so have claimed we should be certed in all pistols in the game (there's the Commando's launcher pistol aswell).

Let me tell you what's "broken" about BH, mister...

Imagine that you were told that, to gain Pistol XP, you could only fight one particular type of mob. Once you got the mission for the mob, you would need to spend money on droids to find out what planet the critter was currently on, then more money to travel there.

On arrival, you spend more money on droids to find out the exact location of your mission, rather than having a free and static waypoint. The mob will move several times while you travel there.

OK, now we get to the "broken" part. When you finally arrive at the mission site, imagine that the ONE mob you can get pistol xp from is white and cannot be targetted... or is not there, despite constant waypoint updates that show it is where you are standing. Or that it is hopelessly embedded in a structure or terrain feature. And that the only thing you can really do is to abort the mission and count the money you've lost.

NOW, imagine all that, and having to invest 14 skill points in a tree for a weapon type you no longer use (how would you like rifles 4 to be a Pistoleer requirement?).

I don't want to hear you whining about how BH is "broken" - no one who hasn't toiled through Investigation has a right to complain about it.

Want to know why BHs can use a gun you can't? Well, to start with we are all master marksmen. Just because our gun is a pistol doesn't mean you should automatically get a cert in it, any more than a rifleman should get a cert in the Commando's Acid Rifle.

Been there, done that. It was frustrating as hell; Not, however, as furstrating as being a master pistoleer and needing a line in BH to be effective with my weapons, or having the only profession in the game that doesn't do what it's namesake is (I'm also a master Smuggler). I'm not saying I'm oh so in need of attention and I'm the worst off in the game, it's just that from my perspective, pistoleers being useless and smugglers not smuggling is far more annoying and frustrating than BH missions not working half the time.

I hear ya there, I just think the OP shouldn't complain about something he's clearly never experienced.

The only prof I've done that was harder work than Bounty Hunter was Bio Engineer.
